"IT'S JUST BUSSINESS, NOTHING PERSONAL"
(Chelsea Li, Nathan Callaghan - GARAGE)
Our first visual for Volume I is the service entrance in the back of the Sanctuary. A sleek Benz pulls too a slow stop, the lights cutting through the bleak New York night die down. There's nothing much save for the low rumble of the generators fixated in the lot. It's only a matter of moments before we see the driver exiting the vehicle, in a rush he moves a few paces to open the door for his passengers. Chelsea Li and Nathan Callaghan step out of the vehicle.
NATHAN: "Don't worry about the key card not opening up your office."
The moneyman backing LPW operations is on his phone taking a call. Li's also face deep on her screen as well. The cameras capture them as they approach a clearly VIP entrance in the back of the Sanctuary.
NATHAN: "-No I mean I have your replacement. Your replacement."
He doesn't look too enthused.
NATHAN: "You promised me talent and delivered me a roster of six! SIX! And half of them were already in the company!"
His raving is enough to get Chelsea looking up too the hard camera with a smirk on her face. We see them both approaching back entrance doorway being guarded by a very large and well suited man.
NATHAN: "You're done before you've even gotten started O'Shea. The closest you're going to get to seeing this passion project of yours, is if you buy a front row seat. Hey... It's business, nothing personal."
That particular bar seemed to put a smile on Callaghan family patriarch's face. Without so much as a double-take, the guard stands aside allowing access to Nathan, Chelsea, and the cameras following in step with them. With a callous hang-up, Nathan makes an abrupt end too his business call.
CHELSEA: "That's such a shame, getting fired before you can even get started."
There's definitely no look of shame or remorse on Li's face.
NATHAN: "Couldn't deliver the goods."
Li and Nathan stop short of the looming void of a corridor. The sound of the Sanctuary's house DJ spinning tracks can be heard, along with the growing ruckus of the LPW fans here to scope out the possible future faces of NYC wrestling. They sound eager and ready, building up a slow rumble that feels like its shaking the old venue at its foundations.
CHELSEA: "Nate - luckily for you I'm a real people pleaser."
There's a strong lace of innuendo from her that Nathan chuckles off.
CHELSEA: "Now show me my office."
The two linger in brief pause, before Nathan strides out of the shot, with Chelsea more than happy to follow in his steps. The shot hands on a pathway that zooms into an excellent shot of gorilla, almost as if we're about to head out to the ring for our first match of the evening...
OPENING CONTEST
SINGLES MATCH
Callie Buchanan vs. Miki
RECAP The very first match in IPW history went underway in front of a capacity crowd in Hells Kitchen. It opened with a refused show of sportsmanship as Callie denied a handshake from her opponent. Instead she used it as an open for her gritty catch style of wrestling. She kept it filthy on the ground, pulling hair and ignoring the officials call for choking Miki through the opening minutes of the match. It all culminated with an athletic and insulting handstand grounded headlock. The next few sequences saw Callie bring the fight back up. She snuffed a few comback attempts from Miki, before shutting her down completely with a suplex to the corner. Callie took precious moments to face up Miki uncomfortably close. She jawed and yelled at her frenemy before attempting some clubbing corner forearms. However, Miki managed to hit the reverse on the momentum. She also managed to hit a flush Enzuigiri just as Callie was winding back for an elbow. From there the match was all Miki. She picked Callie apart with precision kicks that landed with sickening pops. Callie tried to measure her opponent, side stepping a side kick from Miki - only to get dropped by a fluid spinning heel kick. Miki was really winning the crowd over with her kicks. Callie did manage to kick out of the pinning attempt, but she was really starting to bruise up quickly from landed and even blocked kick. The Iron Maiden even managed to catch another side kick attempt from Miki. She had Miki in an awkward spot, and spun her around. Facing her back the Oxford grappler put the clamps on with a strong rear facing waist lock. However, Miki seemed more than prepared as she began to struggle against her opponent. Miki baited her by feinting her attempt to wrestle free. It caused Callie to drop her stance low for better leverage. However, she was just where Miki needed her to be. Kay, Thx, Byeeee! The crowd erupted from the sudden counter. They then counted along with the offcial as Miki hooked the leg for the three count and the first W in the IPW record books. WINNER Miki METHOD Pinfall MATCH LENGTH 8:17 FINISHING MOVE Kay, Thx, Byeeee (Shiranui) POST MATCH After soaking in appluse from a well earned victory, Miki went in to check on Callie. Buchanan was recovering in the corner, and looked skeptical at Miki's second offer of a handshake. We don't hear much audio, but clearly Miki is telling Callie that she gave her a good match. It's a feel good moment, as Callie seemed to put her differences aside and take in her limelight for competing in IPW's first match. The two exit the ring together. They made it half way up the ramp before Callie took Miki by surprise with a sucker punch. She then scooped and dropped her hard against the grated metal rampway with a back suplex. Callie soaked in a different kind of spotlight with a wicked smile down at her "friend" Miki. The cameras zoom in on Miki holding her back and seething, a look of ire and pain was etched on her face as she slowly stared back at her "friend". |
"WELCOME TO THE SHOW"
(Gina Van Zyl - LOCKER ROOM)
Gina Van Zyl is seen in the locker room she is sitting in a chair, talking on her phone.
GINA: "Of course I am excited, this is only my third match in the States, and I'm in the main event!"
She notices the camera, she smiles and holds up a finger.
GINA: "My opponent has made a fool of themselves, and tonight I'm going to make a fool of them in the ring."
She chuckles
GINA: "Just make sure everyone watches! I want to make all of you proud. Ok dad, give everyone my love. Ek is lief vir jou ook (I love you too) bye."
Gina smiles as she hangs up, she looks into the camera.
GINA: "Tonight is a big night for me, this is my first ever main event match. Are there butterflies? Of course, am I nervous? Yeah, I am. But that being said it does not mean I am not ready."
She bends down and finishes lacing up her boots.
GINA: "GTaylor Lewis I, you are a fool, you have proven it time and time again. You like to act like you are a genius but in fact you are far from it."
She looks into the camera again, a slight smirk on her face.
GINA: "You say you have a plan, a contingency plan and another contingency plan. Let me ask you this, does your plan include you getting beaten?"
She stands, the camera follows up her body before focusing on her face.
GINA: "GTaylor I know you don't want to admit it, but deep down you are a failure, you failed to complete College, you failed to prove you have a "Big Brain" you failed to antagonize me in my own language on social media."
She chuckles
GINA: "And tonight I will show the world what a failure you are, all your called plans will be for naught. In case you don't know what that means, it means your plans will be for nothing."
She walks toward the door, she looks over her shoulder and smiles.
GINA: "It's almost time GTaylor, it's almost time for me to prove how much of a fake you are. Get ready, Welkom by die vertoning (Welcome to the show)"
She walks through the door as the camera fades to black.
MATCH TWO
TORNADO TAG MATCH
Team Morant vs. The Interns
RECAP This match never got out of first gear. Sad Max started things out for the Interns against Joss Morant. Joss easily clowned over Max, going through nearly every move in her arsenal. The Morants put Max on an island, cutting the ring in half. It was looking bad for ROTTEN's resident junior associates, until a large figured stepped through the crowd and over the barricade. The giant of a man pulled Dexter down from the apron and the two immediatley began to exchange blows. This prompted the official to call for the bell. WINNER Team Morant METHOD DQ MATCH LENGTH 2:02 FINISHING MOVE Interference POST MATCH The melee outlived the match itself. Max and Huck were able to hold Joss down in the ring, forcing Joss to watch as this large man began to overpower her brother. His blows ripped through the arena like thunderclaps. It was clear that whoever this individual was, they clearly sided with ROTTEN's Interns. The climax came with this large beast clearing away the announcer's table. Jackson and Rudolph barely had time to exit the splash zone as Dex was driven through the table with a Sitout Crucifix Powerbomb! Back inside the ring, Sad Max is climbing the ropes. He leaped off for a diving leg drop, timing his move to come right after Joss was flattened with a Pink Valley Driver! (Torture Rack Facebuster) The fans are booing loudly as these interns have proven themselves to be very naughty boys. The cameras get a good highlight shot of the big man as he's looking over his handiwork. |
"WEEK BY WEEK"
(Miki, Honest Andrews - BACKSTAGE)
Honest Andrews catches up with Miki backstage. The young star is a mixed beg of emotions but she's smiling by the time she spots the camera is on her. Unlike at No Man's Land II, she doesn't freeze up, but she's quick to stand in what she judges to be the best place.
HONEST: "Miki, a quick word?"
Miki enthusiastically nods.
Honest: "First of all, congratulations on your win tonight. Your first ever match, the first ever win recorded in an IPW ring too, it's one you'll never forget."
MIKI: "You're right, Honest, and thank you so much for the congratulations. Tonight is a night I'm never going to forget but that's a double edged sword. I'll always recall my victory here, but I'll also be unable to separate it from the very shady and disappointing actions taken by Callie in the aftermath."
She shakes her head, her disappointment isn't hidden.
MIKI: "Go back two, maybe three weeks and Callie was acting like a friend to me. That's all it is though, Honest, it's an act. She soon turned that around and torched any respect we had between us. I know this is a selfish sport, but I see no reason to downtalk my opponents... especially if I've never even seen them fight. Obviously Callie is cut from a different cloth. Her mentality was to try and ridicule me, diminish me, knock my confidence. Well, let me tell you, that didn't work. She assumed she'd cut me down with ease and look what happened, she lost. Not because she has no skill, that'd be silly to claim, but because she thought she didn't need to give this 100%. Me, though, I knew I had to give this my fullest effort and I did. Look what happened, arm raised, my debut win. Perfect, really."
Miki moves to hold her cheek.
MIKI: "Right up until I go to shake her hand and not only does she refuse, she takes a cheap shot and sucker punches me. Real classy, Callie, nice work. You'd think it's bad enough to lose the match, but to show no grace or class either is plain bad. If I were her I'd be bitterly disappointed in my actions and I'd use the time between now and next show to reflect on them and be better. But somehow I doubt she will."
A quick shrug.
MIKI: "Not my problem though, my only aim here was to win and I did that."
HONEST: "You certainly did, and you showed a class along with it. Now that you scored that first win, what is your next milestone here in IPW?"
Thinking for a moment, Miki smiles.
MIKI: "Same as ever, really. Take it week by week, aim to win as much as possible and keep my name in the mind of both management and fans alike. To me, that's how you earn opportunities. Make it so you stand out and aren't forgotten. Winning the first match, that's a good start but it isn't the last step by any means. I have such a long road ahead and I'm going to take it piece by piece."
HONEST: "A good attitude to have, I think it'll set you right in the future. Good luck, Miki!"
MIKI: "Thank you so much."
Honest watches as Miki moves on by, before signing off to the camera...
MAIN EVENT
SINGLES MATCH
GTaylor Lewis I vs. Gina Van Zyl
RECAP This Main Event never got going. As GVZ was exiting down the ramp, the "Big Brain" of IPW launched a dastardly sneak attack. While it seemed at first that Lewis was looking to soften Van Zyl up before the bell, it never turned out that way. GTaylor brutalized Gina on the outside to the chagrin of the crowd. GTaylor even teased getting into the ring to at least get the bell rung, but no. Instead, he scaled his way to the top rope before he leapt down with a crushing elbow drop to the floor! It was a nice move he named "Move In Silence." Lewis looked particularly proud of his work and finally rolled inside of the ring to the sound of the bell. However, there was no fight to be had. Lewis simply soaked in all of the chants and jeers from this Hell's Kitchen crowd - all while Gina was being counted out by the official. The South African export put on a display of toughness, nearly throwing her leg over the apron to painfully roll into the ring. However, a basement sliding drop kick from Lewis sent Gina hitting back first against the fan barricade and not being able to beat the ten count. WINNER GTaylor Lewis I METHOD Count Out MATCH LENGTH 0:12 FINISHING MOVE Basement Dropkick POST MATCH GTaylor got his hands on a microphone after the brief match with GVZ. He put a look of surprise on everyone's face when he began to speak perfect fluid Afrikaans in front of the crowd. He pointed to the outside at Gina, who was just regaining her footing on the outside. He said in the foreign language that GVZ was on overzealous loser who couldn't "think her way out of a wet bag." Lewis taps on the side of his temple as he continued on. He spoke about his own intelligence, and about how he's likley the smartest one in developmental. He said that his work spoke volumes for itself, and that while he punched his ticket to qualify for the Independence Championship, GVZ was just looking bad and far out and away from any kind of title scene. Gina managed to speak loud enough to exchange barbs with the man. While she was beaten tonight, he spirit remained far from broken as the two went back and forth. She managed to slide into the ring, inside of it for the first time tonight. She and Taylor continued to go back and forth, until Gina caught him with a kick to his midsection. Doubled over, Gina landed her Cape Town Crush (Canadian Destoryer) a pretty move that envoked a pretty nice crowd reaction. Gina stood over Taylor looking victorious as we faded away. |
"ON MY STANDARDS"
(Chelsea Li, Nathan Callaghan, GTaylor Lewis I - RINGSIDE)
We come right back to seeing the officials helping Gina too the back. The "Big Brain" was just wrapping up his celebration, it doesn't seem too long removed from that blinker of a main event. Before he could return even halfway up the ramp, we saw Chelsea Li and Nathan Callaghan make another appearance for the night. The both have microphones, and they stopped just short of descending down the ramp.
NATHAN: "Well isn't this just great?"
He looks livid behind an intimidating fake smile.
NATHAN: "So not only do we a whopping roster in the single digits... Not only do we have possibly the most generic booking I've had to sit through... But it seems like the bulk of the talent O'Shea did managed to sign don't even want to put on a show."
Commissioner Li interjected herself in right behind him.
CHELSEA: "After all, these good people did pay money to see a less fifteen minutes of action riiiiight?"
The fans are clearly not okay with this, but it seemed as if Li was hamming up the sarcasm and feigned pleasure with how this first show turned out.
CHELSEA: "Don't worry, this is an easy fix. I haven't just been rocking out in this new Bien Habillé piece and sitting pretty in the back. Commish-Li has been hard at work putting the pieces together to turn this night around on its heels... And I did it."
We don't quite know what that means yet, but almost on que Callaghan and Li's faces lit up with some genuine anticipation - like they were both privy to some secret we don't know yet.
CHELSEA: "So let's get started, this time on my standards..."
The camera pans back to GTaylor Lewish, who's resting his hands on his waist. We can still here Li's voice even with the cameras fixed on IPW
s resident "Big Brain" grappler.
CHELSEA: "I didn't come up with the dumbass idea to run qualifiers on a roster of six... Buuuuuutttttt, I do want to see a champion... OUR champion. And I want to see them TONIGHT!"
The fans went crazy at the prospect of getting more wrestling. We see GTaylor already lobbying for himself. No microphone, but it doesn't seem like Li or Callaghan are having issues hearing him. He asks the pertinent question, "What about me?".
CALLAGHAN: "You know she thought about that. We can't let our booked qualifiers go unrewarded... And, as conniving as this assembly is already proving itself to be... I can say this at least, I respect the hunger."
CHELSEA: "So we're going to see who's the hungriest. But first, about you "Brain Boy". You can't go empty handed after your amazing "effort" tonight. Soooooo, that means that you... And Miki have qualified..."
A deliberate dramatic pause.
CHELSEA: "... To be our first two entrants in our REAL Main Event tonight. An over the top battle royal! One winner, one Independence Champion!"
GTaylor looked initially thrilled, until he realized he'd have the absolute worst odds at claiming that belt tonight. After rolling over the wave of shock, he takes a few bold steps up the ramp. He argues back and forth vehemently with Li off mic. However, it's all set in stone now. Commissioner Li 'Buh-Bye's" GTaylor and points back to the ring. She then retreats to the back alongside Nathan, and it looked like our night wasn't over just yet.

INDEPENDENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
Miki vs. GTaylor Lewis I
RECAP GTaylor was already in the ring, waiting on Miki. She began to head down the ring, but was cut off by a surprise attack from behind. Callie wasn't quite finished with her! The fans booed loudly as Callie threw Miki repeatedly into the barricades on both sides of the ramp. This time the entire officiating staff and a few road agents were rushing out to call the British Import off. GTaylor looked on, pleased as punch as Callie put down the exclamation mark in an impressive fashion. She quite literally rolled herself and Miki down the ramp with a rolling bridged suplex. Callie timed her release with bad intention, throwing Miki spine first into the apron at an akward angle. The fans booed loudly as she rolled Miki in the ring. Only for Lewis to scoop her up and toss her out.MIKI (ELIMINATED) The entrance theme of the next competitor played, it was Callie's. With the lass already down by ringside, the agents and officials trying to shoo her too the back had to back off themselves. Either a small showing of honor or thankfulness, GTaylor backed up - letting Callie step inside of the ring without being hounded. However, as soon as she was in she hopped over the top right back out! CALLIE BUCHANAN (ELIMINATED) Even the "Big Brain" is confused at first. However, Callie made her true intentions known quickly. She kicked and pushed away the shorthanded medical staff trying to walk MIki to the back. She STILL wasn't done with her "friend" taking Miki back down to the floor. She locked in the Drop The Curtain! (Double Underhook with Body Scissors) Callie was hell bent on not letting go! The same agents who had back off had to turn tail right again to swarm around Callie - trying to pry away her hold on Miki! She kept her locked in until it seemed as if Miki was fading away, she then dropped the kickboxer on the floor and stepped over her. A disrespectful showing as she wiped her boots on Miki before heading to the back. GTaylor was pacing in the ring before the next song hit... It played for four people. We saw filling out from the back, Sad Max, the brutish beast of a man, Huck, and in his ear Kassi Taylor! The junior members of ROTTEN rolled out to the ring, each took their own side of the ring as they had GTaylor completely boxed in. Kassi was given a microphone, and she did more than administer fan service the way she stepped through the ropes. She tried to use her charms on GTaylor, it culimated with a ROTTEN recruiting pitch that was just shaken off by the "Big Brain". Not one to be told no, Kassi's face soured and the boys were instantly all over Lewis in a full on blitz! It seemed as if the ROTTEN wrestlers were supposed to come out one at a time. For three straight entries we heard the same ROTTEN theme, and for what felt like ages they all ganged up on Lewis. Through the announcment of the final ROTTEN entrant, we learn that the big guy's name is Aurelio. Kassi is calling plays from the outside, and none of them called for an elimination. She seemed to relish in his dismantlement. The match continued on, until Joss Morant came charging down the ramp with two kendo sticks in hand. There wasn't any music, so it was safe to assume she wasn't officially in this match. But no one told her that. She charged the ring and took it too ROTTEN, dual wielding and swinging wildly. She managed to chase Max out of the ring, who threw himself over the top and out hide behind Kassi. SAD MAX (ELIMINATED) The team looks dumbfounded at Max's gaffe, but not for long because Joss was still swinging. She took a big swing at Huck with both sticks. The Florida Man managed to roll away out of danger, but on his blindside GTaylor Lewish was hard charging him. A picturesque jumping dropkick sent Huck tumbling to the outside. With that vulture's wingspan, Aurelio scrambled and managed to get a hold of Huck. Huck was dangling precariously close to elimination. However, Joss and Lewis rushed the big man. Each wrapped around one of his tree trunk legs before they managed to send La Mesa Blanca up and over the top, sending him and Huck to the outside. HUCK & AURELIO (ELIMINATED) We can gauge that Joss did this for her brother's honor. However, the camera get a glimpse of Joss getting lost in the crowds cheers. Away from the undercarriage of her brother's wings and she was being cheered? She didn't have much time to stew on it, as Aurelio was stepping back into the ring to chase her down. With her kendos serving as nothing more than an annoyance for the big man, she did the logical thing and ran too the back - with all of ROTTEN in hot pursuit. GTaylor was once again the one and only remaining in the match. However, no bell... It seemed as if Commish Li had made some big moves in a short time frame. In moments we see Lisa Kober heading down the ramp! A regular face at The Scrapyard and on the Indy wrestling scene, it was just a matter of time before someone signed her - and it looked like Li pulled that off. She strode down too the ring with speed and quickly took the fight to Lewis. Fresher than her opponent, Lisa dominated all ends of the encounter. However, Lewis remained pesky and persistent in fighting off elimination. There's a brilliant corner struggle spot, where GTaylor fights off elimination by frantically tangled and tied Kober's hair around the ropes. The two battled on for a few more minutes before we heard another theme hitting the airwaves. Our ring announcer announced Scout Delaney as the final entrant in this match. A relative newcomer, better known for her work in High Roller Wrestling. She sped down the ramp to interject herself into the gauntlet. It looked initially as if Scout was going to help pick off of the scraps and get Lewis eliminated. However, as she freed her hair from entaglement, Kober cut Scout off with a huge thrust kick. It looked like Lisa wasn't having it. She wanted the glory and that title, and wanted it on her terms. Scout was game for the contest, putting all of her attention on Kober. The two went back and forth for minutes trading huge moves on each other. No slow build, just home run shots being thrown out in the ring. The duel climaxed with a Delaney-Go-Round (Spinning Codebreaker) attempt from Scout. But in the middle of that spin, Lisa managed to shove Scout off. Before the young grappler could recover, the German Export launched her over the top rope with The Walk Off! (Spotlight Kick) SCOUT DELANEY (ELIMINATED) A good effort in a good debut from Scout. But now we were down to our last two... One? As Lisa looked around the ring, there was no GTaylor Lewis to be found. During her duel of signature moves against Delaney, the savvy IPW fans saw Lewis powder out of the ring and retreat underneath the apron. Did it break the spirit of the Battle Royal? Sure. Did it prove to be an effective tool? Absolutley. GTaylor picked his spot at the right moment. He slid back inside of the ring with Kober's back turned to him. All he needed for - NO! As he was sneakily stepping back into the ring, we see a fan in a hoodie pushing through to the barricade. They hop it like a turnstile and smash a chair right into the back of Lewis! Another whack against the back of his head sent him stumbling forward! Right into The Walk Off! Lewis is kicked over the top rope and tumbles to the outside right next to that fan... GTAYLOR LEWIS I (ELIMINATED) Who peels back the hoodie to show tufts of red hair... GVZ! The cameras caught the South African giving Lewis only one word in her native Afrikaans. (Outsmarted). WINNER Lisa Kober METHOD Elimination MATCH LENGTH 17:46 FINISHING MOVE The Walk Off (Spotlight Kick) POST MATCH Li even managed to get a pyro and confetti team at the last second.
