"PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE"
(GTaylor Lewis I - BACKSTAGE)
We open backstage where Independence’s resident Big Brain Gtaylor Lewis I is sitting on an equipment box, holding an iPad in one hand and a stylus in the other. They are dressed in a Yellow Wales Bonner Pantsuit clearly ready to accompany Callie to her match later on. As the cameras get closer, Lewis I looks up and quickly puts away their iPad.
GTAYLOR: Why is it you guys are always trying to get a sneak peek at my ingenious plans? Patience is a virtue they say. Which is why you should just wait and be surprised like everyone else.
GL1 hops up from the box they're seated on and wags a finger towards the camera.
GTAYLOR: OTHER than trying to invade my privacy, I know why you’re here. You’re here to get my thoughts about being snubbed out of that championship opportunity aren’t you? Well I’m not upset about it. No really. Everything is fine. Like I said earlier, Patience is a virtue. I know that in due time my hard work and incredibly big brain will be rewarded properly. Chelsea may be a little rough around the edges. But she isn’t an idiot. I’m one hundred percent confident things will work out.
They flash a little smile, doing a little hair toss to go along with it.
GTAYLOR: So why waste time even talking about it. Let’s talk about something a little more interesting as of this moment. One of if not THE biggest star in Independence Pro, Callie Buchanan, hits the ring yet again. Gracing everyone here tonight with poise, power, and passion. She’s the Angel Hell’s Kitchen never knew they needed. Going one on one with Chloé Night, a name that should ring a lot of bells for a lot of people. This is truly A main event matchup. And you don’t even have to wait that long to see it.
Gtaylor straightens their pantsuit, smoothing out a few stubborn wrinkles, before continuing their monologue.
GTAYLOR: And what a match it’s sure to be. Chloé is tough for sure. Just look at some of the matches she has already been in. I know we have. And see that’s the thing. The secret weapon. The ace up our sleeve. Chloé can try to prepare all she wants. But it’s all for naught. Especially in comparison to the work Callie and I have been putting in. Between Legacy, Valiant, and all the other places she’s appeared, we’ve gathered an extensive tape collection. We’ve looked over all her flaws. All her mistakes. All her missed opportunities. We threw them all up on The Whiteboard and came up with numerous ways to use them for our advantage.
The College Dropout turns around to collect their belongings. When they turn back around there’s a very serious look in their eyes.
GTAYLOR: Not to mention the fact that Callie has the advantage of having Independence Pro’s quickest thinker in her corner. So Chloé, whatever plan you had coming in here, I sure hope you came well equipped with a backup. I know we did.
And with that GL1 starts down the hallway, leaving the cameraman with an arrogant laugh that echoes through the hallway..
"BIRDS DON'T SING"
(WisE - BACKSTAGE)
Danica Thetcher stands by, her eyes focused off-camera. She watches as her partner in crime Beatrix Davies begins dragging a large plastic trash bin in front of the camera. Both are already dressed in their ring gear, in which a large eye topping the letter 'i' is always present and center. There are minute differences in the gear, like snakeskin patterning for Davies while Thetcher has a distressed Owl airbrushed into the left hip.
DANICA: Let’s have this much needed talk. Why Scout? Why use Scout to make our debuting appearance in Independence Pro? To give you the gift of the West Indian Society of Excellence of course. Sacrifices will be made, and the mindless are the first to go. I mean really Scout’s a right tit isn’t she? Girl’s all thumbs and assholes. Three lines, no waiting if you know what I mean. Birds don’t sing, sun don’t shine, Scout don’t impress.
BEATRIX: We’re to fight with Kober as her tag partner and she seems alright yeah? Feels like a bit of a handicap match though if I’m honest. She’s sure we can’t convince her to take the night off, go do something more interesting than hold up her end for the load of all loads?
Danica shrugs her shoulders before dumping boxes of Girl Scout cookies from a cardboard box into the trash.
DANICA: If she wants to team with the human equivalent of these blasted biscuits that tiny children are taught to hawk in front of stores for profit by way of doe eyes, she can. More's the pity and all that These things are sugary, lacking substance and have the name Scout attached. I can barely see the difference of human and biscuit. Wouldn’t touch these things with a ten foot pole.
Beatrix stops short, having been agreeing up until that point. She mugs the camera briefly before rummaging inside the cardboard box, an empty box of Samoas. Of course Samoas, because no one can resist the powerful taste of Samoas, unlike those fuckin' do-si-dos.
BEATRIX: Really going to make me blow your spot a little bit, Dani? You've been chomping these little trash discs all week, all the while complaining how shit they taste. Absolutely mad, I tell you. Never catch me slacking like that, I care about what I put in my body, sis.
Danica rolls her eyes at her tag partner.
DANICA: I’ll not hear from the gallery. Thank you. You’re the same person who swears by raw eggs cracked in Huel for tea. That's not FOOD, Bea love. That's a waste of good eggs.
BEATRIX: IT'S HEALTHY!
DANICA: IT'S SICK!
Both members of WisE subsequently blow each other off with the same hand motions. Almost perfectly mirrored, wispy, snatch motions into a 'zip it'. After a moment of backs turned and looking in opposite directions, Dani reaches into the trash bin for another box of Samoas. Beatrix slaps them out of her hands, letting the box thump against the inside of the can before falling in with the others.
BEATRRIX: We have a match. A teaching experience. You forget that? Now's not the the time to be stuffing your face in with that trash. Can we go and teach some girls how to be WisE or not?
DANICA: Fine, fine. You should really let me handle these ideas in the future, Bea Feels like a waste of food.
BEATRIX: Well Scout’s a waste of air. Anyone who’s proud of winning a match in which their opponent proved he could beat them any time...Which Huck and Kassi did by the by...Needs to be given a full lesson plan. Semester-long course, and sitting exams. She’s got another Symbol of Complex in her future I promise.
DANICA: Maybe she’ll take notes this time.
Beatrix scoffs as she follows Danica. The last bit is the camera leaning over the trash can lip to see all the discarded boxes of cookies.
MATCH ONE: TAG TEAM
WisE vs Lisa Kober & Scout Delaney
RECAP We come in too WisE just getting inside of the ring. The next sequence sees Scout coming out with the champ, Lisa Kober. A lot of gratuitous shots were given too the INDEPENDENCE championship Lisa wore to the ring. Apparently Commissioner Li managed to hand it too her off screen. The match itself started with Scout and Danica. The two came out of the gates even at first. However, Scout had Danica fooled. Pissed about last week, she faked a test of strength into a flurry of hard chops - cornering Danica. Those chops turned into hard elbows, and then a whip into the opposite corner. Kober wasn't sitting idly. She raised up for an enziguri from the outside, just as Danica hit the corner. She sent Thetcher stumbling right into a shining wizard from Scout! Beatrix was needed to break up an early pin attempt. The match flowed on, with Scout maintaining control. She showed surprising synergy with Kober, using her willingness to strike from the corner to their advantage. Breaking up momentum, Beatrix ran to the enemy side of the ring, pulling Kober off the apron - right before Scout could tag her in. The focus turned to the brawl on the outside. Lisa ducked under a clothesline attempt from Beatrix. She looked like she was going to counter with her Spotlight kick. But suddenly the lights dropped. It felt like darkness for a full minute before they return to ringside. Everyone's looking at the entrance ramp in a state of shock. A bloodied Kober was lying back first, t-posing with her belt neatly propped right next too her. It looks like her own blood was used to draw some ill-painted pentagram around her. Scout was the first to break the stillness, moving to the ropes to check on Lisa. However, she stepped right into a Cobra Punch from Beatrix on the apron. Scout stumbled back into a double wristlock belly-to-back! With the bridge for the three count and the win. WINNER WisE METHOD Pinfall MATCH LENGTH 6:17 FINISHING MOVE Symbol of Complex POST MATCH Luckily for Scout, WisE feels the vibe too eerie to engage in their new favorite pastime of beating up Delaney. The quickly head out of the ring, careful to not tread on the downed champ - but also not willing to even check on her. After selling the big team finisher she took, the cameras focus in on Scout as she slid out the ring and headed to check on Lisa. However before she could cross that ramp incline, the same pyro from last week blazed out of nowhere - startling Scout and the fans seated along the ramp way. The last shot of our opening match being Lisa, boxed in by the flames. |
"CHANGE THE GAME"
(Miki - PRE-TAPED)
Opening on a view of a New York apartment, the feed cuts to inside and shows Miki sitting on her lounge in her front room. This is clearly not live footage, but rather recorded in the week.
MIKI: I don’t get it.
She lets that sit for a moment.
MIKI: I just don’t get it. Why is wrestling so self-destructive? For me, I wrestle to fight, that’s it. I wrestle to get into the ring and see how my skills fare against someone else’s skills. Just like I did in kickboxing, very successfully by the way.
She points to the multiple trophies in a cabinet behind her.
MIKI: But not everyone does, huh? I mean, you have bosses who want to do lord knows what, it’s certainly not to build a solid roster, and wrestlers who get away with doing anything they want to do. There are blatant favorites in wrestling and I don’t fit that mould because I think for myself, I’m not a puppet and I’m not going to smile and nod for people I don’t even respect. People that haven’t achieved anything more than I have, even though I just started.”
The crowd reacts with general agreement on her points.
MIKI: I get that drama sells but I’m pretty sure some of you would disappear into a vacuum without it, without that ability to do crummy things for no reason other than you like it. You don’t come to work to measure up and strive to be the best, nor to win accolades and build a reputation as one of the toughest people around. You come to work because in any other context the things you do would get you thrown in jail...yet, for some reason, in wrestling it’s all okay.
The young lady scoffs.
MIKI: It’s crazy. Kickboxing was nothing like it, but then again kickboxer egos aren’t so fragile either...
She shrugs, letting her words linger.
MIKI: So tonight’s gone from a 1v1 between myself and Gina, to a triple threat which adds in Sad Max for absolutely no reason a sound mind could hope to fathom. And with ROTTEN at ringside, no less. Yay, randomness. What on earth could go wrong?
Her eyes ever so slowly roll.
MIKI: Even with reassurances from one of them, well, it’s not like you can trust anyone here can you? So my first ever title match is one where I don’t even have to be involved in the fall to lose, and it’s got one guy who was added on a whim, plus he’s bringing his teammates. On top of that, Chelsea seemed to suggest she’d reward anyone who takes me out and what we get is…
She shakes her head, again.
MIKI: I guess we’ll see how it goes. I’ll give it all the benefit of the doubt but I do have doubts, many of them. It won’t stop me giving this my all, though. Who knows? Maybe I’ll mess up the plans of the powerbrokers, maybe I’ll prove to be an annoying thorn in the side.
Miki smirks widely.
MIKI: Maybe I’ll not play ball, or change the game. Guess we’ll see, won’t we?
"ON MY OWN"
(Joss Morant - PRE-TAPED)
A seamless transition in video packages. This time we see Joss Morant, she sits front and center too the camera frame. Oddly enough she's not hanging alongside her brother Dex.
JOSS: I'm on my own now.
She began with a slow start, these words weren't easy to push out.
JOSS: I'm so tired of feeling like a victim in all of this.
She rubbed her hands together.
JOSS: Independence is a different beast to what I've seen on the main roster. Everyone's hungry to get seen and make an impact. I don't blame anyone for doing what they have too.
She paused, looking deep into the frame.
JOSS: But I can't allow anyone to make a name at my or my brother's expense. No, the name Morant doesn't translate too doormat, or open invite.
Another pause.
JOSS: For weeks its been either myself or my brother that's been used in an attempt to build a career. Well I have the unfortunate news to tell ROTTEN and anyone in Indy... That Joss Morant isn't a stepping stone!
The fire in her promo draws cheers from the audience. Not shaken in the slightest, she pressed on.
JOSS: So I told Dex that he can take it easy on Thursdays. Because I'm convinced that many of you need some sense knocked into your heads, and I know that's a helluva task. But if there's anyone that can do it. It's me.
She pointed towards herself.
JOSS: I've been taking notes for a while now, and I've more than grown beyond just being Dex's kid sister. It's time I went out and claimed some respect for my name and my abilities!
The Sanctuary crowd surely agrees, hanging by her every word.
JOSS: So there it is, ROTTEN, WisE, hell even the Easter bunny, anyone that wants to have a try against the new and improved Joss Morant...
Her eyes narrow.
JOSS: I'm more than prepared for the challenge.
MATCH TWO: SINGLES
Chloé Night vs Callie Buchanan w/ GTaylor Lewis I
RECAP Callie and Gtaylor have really been getting along great lately. The Big Brain is even wheeling his whiteboard down to ringside as well. We get a huge ovation for Night, who's making her Indy debut tonight. The match began with a test of strength between Buchanan and Night. Chloé got out muscled, with Callie scooping her quickly for a slam and a very early cover. Buchanan looked to keep the match on the ground after the kick out. However, Night was able to sprawl her way out of danger. On the outside GTaylor looks like a coach, drawing up plays and quickly erasing them to make new ones in flow with the match. Inside the ring, Night sent Buchanan through a back and forth rope sequence, ending with a sudden high leaping famouser! Buchanan kicked out of the first impact move of the match, but looked stunned. Night was looking to charge her opponent from the opposite side of the ring. However, she runs right into a very pretty instep leg sweep from the Iron Maiden. Callie continued her advantage deadlifting Night as if she weighted nothing. She slung her back with a nasty suplex into the corner! Callie wasn't done. She rolled forward after the suplex, catching her footing at the opposite corner. The Iron Maiden then charged forward with some horsepower, before leaping into a corner cannonball! GTaylor is loving it on the outside, yelling at the fans that they drew up the plays. Callie made the cover, but at the very last second Night kicked out! It was a close count by the official and Callie is livid. Buchanan raised up to give the ref a strong piece of her mind. In the argument, Night went for the roll-up pulling Callie back. It should have been a three count, but Gtaylor hit the apron and quickly got the officials attention, trying to slide their white board on the apron. Callie is still pinned, struggling for like ten seconds now - but Gtaylor has somehow baited the official into a debate as to why they're allowed to put the white board on the apron. Almost fifteen whole seconds and then Night ended the roll up, it's her turn to be irate at the ref. She eventually returned her attention back to Callie, perfect timing because GTaylor just got ejected! The Big Brain is outta here, leaving to the chorus of "Hit the Road Jack" from the sanctuary. Callie and Chloé face off once again, after a slow bit of pacing around each other. They eventually throw their textbooks out the window and meet in the middle. They traded hard chops and punches, putting their resolve to the test. Callie gets nasty with a sudden headbutt that had Chloé wobbling. As Callie looked to capitalize, instinct took over for Night. She fell back with a Pele Kick out of nowhere! This match is getting tense as both ladies were slow to get to their feet. As they did, we could see Callie reaching out to grab Night. However Chloé slapped her hands aside, turned on her next gear and shot at the ropes. Callie turned in prime position to get caught! The Long Kiss Goodn- NO! As Chloé was attempting to land the cutter, Callie had the move scouted down! She slid her hands up, into a double underhook - She leapt and grapevined her legs as Chloé's falling momentum from the cutter sent them both hitting the middle of the ring! Drop The Curtain! Chloé struggled against it for a bit, but The Iron Maiden's grip was just too strong! Unyielding and unwilling to tap, Chloé faded away, forcing the official to end the match. WINNER Callie Buchanan METHOD Submission MATCH LENGTH 14:48 FINISHING MOVE Drop The Curtain POST MATCH It was a great match between the two. Heel or face, the Sanctuary was giving them both a resounding ovation. However, Callie was definitely feeling herself. She dropped to the outside and brought in GTaylor's abandoned white board inside. With a a huge shit-eating smile on her face, she takes the dry erase marker and paints a huge "L" front and center on the board. She then positions it so it would be the first thing Chloé saw as she started to come too... A stunned silence before absolute disavowal from the crowd. Relishing in the jeers, the posh one would merely take a bow. |
"THIS IS MY INDEPENDENCE"
(Cameron Grey - PRE-TAPED)
It’s not backstage we go to, but a training facility. The mats are bare save for one man in the lotus position, eyes closed. His chest rises and lowers with each breath before he opens his eyes, grinning.
CAMERON: God, it’s been ages.
The grin remains as he extends a leg out, bending over as he continues on.
CAMERON: For a while, I thought I was done with wrestling. I entered the world of MMA in Japan, I ended my commitments to wrestling, and even when I found myself thrusted back in, it was only for one match before I returned to mixed martial arts.
He now switches position, bringing the extended leg back in while stretching out the leg that was tucked in.
CAMERON: But life has a funny way of telling you that things aren’t over just yet. That one match lit a fire inside of me, a fire that only grew as I took time away. I needed pro wrestling the same way I need air to breathe, or need Lenny to put things into perspective. And it was her who told me that I wasn’t done wrestling just yet.
Now both legs are extended before he rolls backwards, using the momentum to get to his feet.*
CAMERON: It doesn’t matter who I was before, or what I accomplished. What matters is here and now. Here is Independence. Now is the time for the mighty to thrive. My name is Cameron Grey. This is MY Independence. And I won’t let you take it from me.”
Cameron gives a brief head nod before dropping into lotus position once more, the scene returning to ringside.
"TONIGHT IS MY NIGHT"
(Gina Van Zyl - RINGSIDE)
Gina Van Zyl is standing in the middle of the ring, she is holding a microphone, she waits for the crowd to calm down before speaking.
GINA: I know I have been saying this a lot but this truly is a big night for me. I am honoured to have this title opportunity.
She smirks
GINA: Even if GTaylor Lewis I seems to think I don't deserve it, and they want to take credit for me getting this opportunity.
The crowd boos at the mention of GTaylor's name.
GINA: But I'm not here to talk about them. No, tonight I am focused on Miki and Sad Max. Both are tough competition. Both also deserve to be in this match. Miki has had to put up with just as much garbage as I have.
The crowd cheers.
GINA: But don't think for a second that I won't take her head off if I have to, the same goes for Max. Tonight is the first title opportunity I have ever received in my short career and I will not let it slip through my fingers!
Gina smiles as the crowd chants her name.
GINA: I hope Miki and Max are prepared, because I definitely am! And when it is all said and done I will emerge as the first ever Challenge Champion!
The crowd cheers louder.
GINA: Tonight is my night! Welkom by die vertoning!
The crowd cheers as Gina leans against the corner and waits for her opponents.
MAIN EVENT: TRIPLE THREAT
CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP
Miki vs Gina Van Zyl vs Sad Max w/ ROTTEN
RECAP Gina's was already inside the ring off of her promo. Miki's was out next. And then the whole gang came down. ROTTEN was in full effect, everyone following in step behind Sad Max. He had very confident look on his face, especially with his crew behind him. However, before they could even hit ringside the crowd erupted. Scout Delaney, Joss Morant, Dex Morant, came out behind them for the jump. Soon enough we got some cameos from main roster talents. Girls of Summer, CVO, Ari Parker! The rampway became a battleground that worked its way too the back. All of the ROTTEN main roster talent evaporated, leaving the match more doable for Miki and Gina. Max entered the ring, only to start the match off. He instantly powdered out, standing beside Aurelio's strong frame. The match began with Gina and Miki instead. They met down the middle with a mutual handshake of respect. However, they couldn't even get past the lock up before we're met with another distraction. Coming after the tail end of the previous carnage, GTaylor Lewis I and Callie Buchanan are heading down the ramp. GL1 had a microphone at the ready. They say that they were right in the end. The non-descript explanation has curious faces on everyone. GL1 and Callie make it to the apron now. GL1 merely said that patience is a virtue. On cue Huck, Aurelio, Sad Max hit the apron. Callie and GL1 followed after. What comes next is a Empire State sized beat down. The fans are booing and livid. The bell was called for and the match is thrown out. The beat down continued on until more action happened alongside the ramp. Its the commissioner herself. She's made her first appearance of the night as she walked down the ramp with a very satisfied look on her face. Aurelio, a gentleman opened the ropes for her entry. Getting GL1's mic, Li stated that GL1's excellent skills of debate led her to the only logical conclusion, that at Indy's first supershow the first Challenge Champion would be crowned in a fatal fourway! GTaylor Lewis I, Callie Buchanan, Gina Van Zyl.... And then Li's lips curled into sinister smile. And Aurelio! The fans really hated that one, with a clear and obvious name being left out of the mix. Aurelio's usual stone face kinda broke into a grin. He towered over Miki lifting her up. Before he could put her away, Li got right up close to the former kickboxer. She proceeded to tell her to eat a dick, and on cue Aurelio flattened her with La Crucifixión! ROTTEN, GL1, and Callie Buchanan stood tall to close out the show, with a shot of Commissioner Li collecting the Challenge Championship and resting it on her shoulders.
