(The following piece is off-camera, so please don’t be a jerk and reference it in a tweet, segment or other RP. This is a catch up piece for stuff I haven’t done a good job of talking about in tweets/segments over the last year.)
The sun was shining through the large glass window of the sun room in the Sanderson home. It was considered to be the reading room for the family of five. Chris and Ali always made sure the kids, well the other kids, read for at least an hour every day, even during their summer vacation. It was what they decided to do as they didn’t want Kayleigh, their oldest together at 8 years ago, and Tyler, different mother, aged 7, to play Fortnite and Fall Guys all day.
Sitting in the sun room with a college football preview magazine was Chris. Being in Seattle now, one of the Seahawks graced the cover of the magazine. Next to Chris was little baby Olivia in a seat. Her eyes were shut as she was sleeping peacefully. Olivia had gotten into the habit of waking up around 5 a.m. every morning and Chris, being as good as he can be of a father, always got up with Olivia so Ali could rest.
Chris always did what he could, and then a bit more, to help with their two month old. This was the first time out of his three children that he had been able to be there and help since birth. Ali had gotten pregnant with Kayleigh while they were dating in high school, and his father having an affair with Ali’s mother, caused them to move away leaving Chris heartbroken.
A little more than a year ago, Ali showed up at his door with Kayleigh in Miami and the two had quickly gotten back together as their spark never left. Despite Christopher’s numerous female and male suitors through their years apart, he never was truly happy because his first love was his biggest love.
Living in Seattle was blissful for the Sanderson clan. They had escaped Florida due to some stupid ideaology from the dumbshits in charge. Seattle was their favorite choice. Near another ocean, it doesn’t get super cold in the winter and not too hot in the summer most of the time. Hell, the high today wasn’t even going to hit 80f. Chris flipped a page in his magazine and glanced over at sleeping Olivia.
He leans down to kiss her forehead. She was only two months old but she was already his little princess, and at least that didn’t seem to bother Kayleigh. She was 8 years old now, and didn’t want to be called a princess anymore. Kayleigh told them before going to camp she wanted to follow in her dad’s footsteps as a wrestler.
That concerned him a fair bit. He didn’t want Kayleigh to be tempted by the numerous vices that have destroyed some of his family and himself. Addiction was strong on his father’s side. His dad was an alcoholic womanizer, his uncle had struggled with drugs and alcohol and Freya had also struggled with alcoholism. His mom was like his dad in a way, just she chased more guys than his dad had women.
It’s been a small miracle that he hadn’t ever strayed in a relationship, despite a few strong temptations through the years. He had nearly cheated on Bree Smith a handful of times but never did. He wished he had cheated on Rose Garnder, though. No, he couldn’t allow himself to be like his old man was. That was the one thing in his life he refused to be, and he had failed at that more than once. While he had never cheated, he did fall down the path of painkillers and alcohol.
One stint in rehab wasn’t enough for him as he kept falling back on the painkillers. The worst of it came when he had Tyler with him and took one too many. It was still a raw feeling knowing that he had nearly overdosed with Tyler in his apartment. That was the slap in the face he needed at the time to finally right the ship and be the best possible version of himself.
He was finally in control of his demons and happy, content and not lying about it. Chris had lied for years about being happy. Lied through his teeth. He hated who he was and where he was going. He sold himself on websites, making videos for others to watch under an assumed name to try to feel any self-worth. None of it helped.
Then, on that day, Ali came back and everything felt whole again. He never knew what a missing piece she was until they had officially started dating again and got married quickly thereafter. She was it. She was always it. If he could’ve ripped off Jerry McGuire, she could’ve had him at hello.
Chris kept looking at Olivia with that smile on his face. He felt more comfortable about who he was. A dad. A husband. A brother who took care of his siblings. Two of his little sisters, Lacey and Lilly, were now living with them as he was waging a secret battle to get custody of his siblings away from his mother. Ali didn’t mind having two teenagers in the house as it was usually a free babysitter if she had to run an errand and Chris was gone.
Of course, part of Chris was a little peeved that no one had mentioned Kayleigh and Tyler were going to camp before he made his announcement last month that he was taking the rest of the summer off to be with the kids. But it did lead to some peace and quiet sans Olivia’s baby outbursts and when his sisters were feuding. He made sure to buy a massive house with a full basement for his siblings to stay in, and even had a kitchen designed for them. He kept tabs on them, however, as they were still in their late teenage years.
It’s what he enjoyed though. Chris had spent months fighting with Jordan over being the head of the family, only to find out their dad was back on earth after getting kicked out of hell. Chris had been able to make peace with his father and felt good about that too.
But last night saw his dad return to hell after his uncle did some dark magic shit to send him back. It wasn’t a huge bother for Chris, but explaining to his kids that Grandpa went back to hell was going to be a tough sell.
Not as tough as explaining what happened to Aunt Britty when they were a bit older. Chris was stunned to find out that the Brittany April Pendergrass they knew was nothing more than a con artist who played a long grift to get massive sums of money.
Leah Wagner had pulled a big one on millions of people by stealing the real Brittany Cummins’ identity. The real Brittany has been in a mental institution for more than 18 years when Wagner saw the family had a lot of kids and money to give out. Then doping a future basketball star was next on her list and everything came together.
He was shattered for Cor, to whom he had zero relation to, but considered him a friend and brother anyways. Chris had looked out for Cor after all of this information broke and he was left alone. Chris even managed to track down Wagner and let Cor know. It still stunned him all the same, though. How could someone pull off a long con like that and never let it slip? Leah Wagner was good, but it was going to catch up with her in the long run.
There was rarely a dull moment in Chris’ life which is why he was beginning to enjoy social media again. He was tweeting more with his peers and friends in the wrestling business and felt some sort of sanity amongst the insane in wrestling. None of them knew most of what he had been doing, and that’s how he liked it. Never showing photos of his kids, just talking about them, and telling a few embellished stories of what he’s done with Ali along the way.
Sometimes you gotta put 100 on 10 to make it juicier. Of course, she really disliked his tweets about her being mean which he did apologize profusely and stopped doing those. His train of thought stopped as Olivia opened her eyes and yawned. She saw her daddy smiling at her and did a small smile back.”
Chris: “Well hello, Liv. Daddy’s been sitting here thinking about how I got to this point. You don’t know the insanity of what my family has, oh no you don’t!”
He picked her up which only made her happier.
Chris: “Someday you’re gonna know the story of my life and I want you to be proud of me. Just like your big sister and big brother.”
A couple of kisses on her cheek followed as they left the sunroom, no doubt going to see Ali and continue to enjoy their best life.
