There is no video, just the sound a chuckle as the voice of Chris Sanderson begins to be heard.
”I told you I’d explain why I challenged Gavin Grimes and I’m a man who does what he says. Or at least I try to be. I wanted to explain why at Liberation last weekend, but I’m a busy man with a family and a side job outside of this great sport. I cannot spend 10 minutes in front of a live crowd sometimes, so I kept it short and sweet to let everyone enjoy the in-ring product given to them by Liberty Pro.”
Chris clears his throat as we hear a can crack open and a sip to follow.
”I had a sole purpose in mind. You all heard it. I challenged Gavin Grimes to a match at Oblivion. He’s a busy guy, in demand, wrestling all over so I knew it was a shot in the dark, but he accepted, and I’m quite happy about it. The man is in a tournament, perhaps making the finals for the next night, and still accepted.
Just glad I get him before Jack Graves does because, man, that press conference was brutal.”
A slight pause follows.
”But the question is why did I challenge Grimes to a match? Why did I choose to end my summer break a little early? To address the latter, my kids, who I have long said the moment they tell me I suck I’m retiring, asked me why I wasn’t wrestling. I said to spend time with them during their summer vacation. They said that was dumb so here we are.
I know some will try to assume this means my children hate me and want me out of the house, and you’re pretty far from the truth. They love wrestling. They love watching their dad go out there in the ring and do his thing. They can brag to their friends that their father goes out there and gets to be on TV and on supershows and all these other things. It’s a thing of pride for me. For them.”
Another pause followed by a sip.
”But why Grimes, right? Some might assume its over something he said about me a few years back when he and Melissa Reeves were locking up over the MWE Championship where he accidentally outed something about me just by pure guess.
But, like Johnathan Frakes says in Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.
Wrong.”
Chris takes a moment to chuckle.
”I’ve never really shared a ring with Gavin Grimes before. I’ve shared it with another Grimes or two, but never him. We have a few similarities. Big wrestling families. We’ve been all over the world. We’ve struggled with demons. Found out there were secret family members, apparently. I’m not going to say it’s a mirror image, but it’s interesting.
It’s interesting that Gavin Grimes has been all over the world. I’ve been all over the world and it’s never happened in the ring. So, I figured, what better way to get on a supershow than to challenge one of the most well known wrestlers in the world. I didn’t want to sit on my couch and watch this show with the family. I want to be in that ring for my family. I want them to see us, Gavin, put on a classic match.
A match with no hate involved. No drama. Just two wrestlers going out there and putting on a complete clinic for the people watching all over the world.
I have no beef with anyone in Liberty Pro or Empire or whatever else is under this umbrella. Not even with some hearts I broke in horrible ways and they have every single right to hate me. I get it. I completely get it.”
Another sip is heard.
”But, it’s just simple, Gavin. I want to wrestle you to wrestle you. No other reason. Everyone has their list of people they want to step into the ring with. You’ve always been on mine.
Sorry if anyone was expecting more.”
And with that the audio is cut.
