It was a quiet Sunday at the Nighfall facilities. Chris Night was in the office, while Gloria Ramirez was working a private submission lesson with three students.
A few newer more unknown talents were hitting the bags or working a weight machine, while Rayven Hardy was the sole occupant of one of the wrestling rings. The still sore Hardy was trying to get her bearings back after the cheap shot from fellow Nightfall trainee, Dex Morant.
Hardy was laying in the ring, doing sit ups, grunting through them as her head was still sore after the most recent Liberation episode.
Rayven Hardy: "99...."
She does her 99th sit up and when she brings her torso up to her knees during the sit up, she now sees a pair of legs in front of her. Her eyes travel up and it’s none other than Dex Morant. Rayven freezes as Dex looked down at her with a smirk.
Dex Morant: “Don’t mind me, Ray. I’m just here scouting you. Keep on doing your normal routine.”
Rayven Hardy: "100...."
She says with a less than enthusiastic tone. Her blood was boiling just seeing him in front of her. She was having flashbacks of Liberation, not just the championship shot, but the dagger was The Crowning.
Rayven Hardy: "What are you doing here? I told you to stay away."
Rayven slowly stands on her feet, she was glistening on her arms with sweat, and her pink top had little sweat spots on it as well, showing she had been working out for quite a while.
Rayven Hardy: "Seriously...this isn't cool. This place is sacred...you know that."
Dex furrowed his brow as he tilted his head.
Dex Morant: “What do you mean it’s not cool? What I’m a doing, Rayven? Am I attacking you? No. I’m just observing. This is something you and I have done a million times.”
Dex gave Ray a pat on the head.
Dex Morant: “You’re working hard, I’ll admit. So, just keep on working and I’ll be right here working along side of you. Let’s train together. That’s what old friends do, no?”
Rayven can't help but to get in his face. She was fuming that he would ruin her big championship defense with Kaia, attack her, and now mock her.
As Hardy gets in her face, Gloria looks over from the mats on the floor a few feet away.
Gloria Ramirez: "Hey...we're not doing that, Ray. You know we don't fight each other in here. Not like that."
Rayven Hardy: "But I-"
Gloria Ramirez: "Ray...for real."
Hardy glances back at Dex who was smirking a bit, which only enraged her even more.
Rayven Hardy: "What the hell do you want, Dex? Old friends do work out together, what they don't do is ruin big moments, matches, or attack them after a match and nearly give them a concussion. So the old friends thing? The key word for us is old. We're done."
Rayven tries to turn around but Dex grabs her by the arm and spins her back toward him, keeping a firm and tight grip on her arm as he glares into her eyes.
Dex Morant: "You know what old friends don't do, Rayven? They don't forget about each other. You laid out the challenge and I said yes. You can try to blame Jade all you want but the facts are that you forgot about me."
Morant pulled Hardy closer to him and the only reason that Rayven hadn't hit him yet is because of Gloria scolding her earlier.
Dex Morant: "You're right though, we are done. Because just like everyone else? You forgot about me. Becky? She didn't brainwash me, she showed me the truth. That the people who claim to love me, who claim to care about me? They don't. They don't notice me. You moved on so quickly from my challenge, I wasn't even an afterthought when you saw Kaia as your opponent."
He squeezed her arm even tighter, to the point where it started to hurt but he had Rayven's arm that was blind toward Gloria's eyesight. Will Rayven retaliate?
Dex Morant: "Speaking of being done? Your reign as Noir Champion will be done after I'm through with you. I'll beat you so bad that even Gavin will be embarrassed to be your friend."
He knew exactly what buttons to push on her. Not only was her arm physically hurting from his tight grip, but the shot about Gavin REALLY got to her.
Rayven Hardy: "Screw you..."
She tries to pull her arm away.
Rayven Hardy: "Owww Dex, you're hurting me."
She looks back to see if Gloria is seeing what's going on as she turns her attention back to Dex.
Rayven Hardy: "I didn't 'forget about you, I've never forgot about you, maybe Jade didn't think you were big enough to draw the ratings that Kaia would..."
She was going to fight back, at least verbally, if he was coming for her. Dex's face turned red as his grip tightened.
Rayven Hardy: "OW!"
Rayven groans before pushing him with her free hand which Gloria DOES see!
Gloria Ramirez: "That's it, Hardy...out of the ring. I'm not playing these games today. I told you. You might have some personal stuff going on, but this is a place of business."
Rayven Hardy: "Bu-"
Gloria Ramirez: Out, Ray.
Rayven turns around and is so mad that she has tears in her eyes as she rubs her wrist, glaring at Dex. Dex smirked as he waved at Rayven.
Dex Morant: “Maybe you should learn to control your emotions, Rayven. Chris has taught us all about that but it seems like you weren’t paying attention during those lessons.”
Dex looked at Gloria.
Dex Morant: “Instead of kicking Ray out for the day, you should have Chris sit her down and talk. Or maybe Xavier Young? I’m sure he has a skittles lesson for her.”
Gloria Ramirez: "Dex, that's enough. Rayven...out of the ring. Now."
Rayven can't believe she was having her training privileges revoked for the day.
Rayven Hardy: "It wasn't my fault..."
She was genuinely sad by it as she slid out of the ring, rubbing her arm. She walks over to her bag and picks it up and heads out of the gym and into the chilly parking lot. The door closes behind her as Dex was standing there.
Rayven turns to face him an ddrops her bag.
Rayven Hardy: "Why are you following me? Do you want to fight out here? Do you just like FUCKING with me?"
Rayven, who hardly curses, was clearly pushed to her breaking point with Dex now!
Dex Morant: “And there it is.”
Dex laughed as he pulled started to walk away but he was back pedaling so that he was still facing Rayven.
Dex Morant: “I’ve already won now, Ray. It’s just a matter of time.”
Dex pointed at the watch on his wrist.
Dex Morant: “What’s yours will soon be mine. Tick tock, birdie. Tick tock.”
Morant then turns and starts to walk away, laughing loudly and obnoxiously.
Rayven had enough, with no one between them, she runs up to him and rams her shoulder into his back, thrusting his back to bend backwards! She then runs forward and into the outside of the Nightfall building!
Dex was caught off guard clearly as Rayven spins away from the building and takes him to the concrete and gets on top and begins to throw elbows at him, letting everything out. She was grunting loudly and shouting at him as she was doing it! This was the most aggressive Dex had ever seen Rayven!
Dex wasn’t even fighting back. In his mind, he had won. He had pushed Rayven over the edge.
Voice: “Yo, what the fuck!?”
A familiar voice be heard and it made Rayven freeze. She was suddenly being pulled off of Dex and holding her there was none other than Gavin Grimes, Rayven’s best friend and the guy who trained Dex.
Gavin Grimes: “Rayven, what the hell are you doing!?”
He looked at her with a confused look before looking down at a bow bloodied Dex.
Gavin Grimes: “You good, Dex?”
Dex acted innocent as he shrugged his shoulders.
Dex Morant: “I don’t know what happened, Gav? She just attacked me, I know I interfered in her match yesterday but I didn’t think she would drag it out here?”
Gavin looked back at Rayven in confusion.
Gavin Grimes: “Ray, what is going on with you?”
Rayven Hardy: "He's lying! He's started with me ever since he got here! He got me thrown out of the gym for the day by Gloria and now he...he pushed me to this."
Rayven looks at Gavin as her eyes dart to him and then back to Dex.
Rayven Hardy: "Seriously, I wouldn't just attack him for that. I've been through a lot worse than that. You know me, Gav."
She couldn't tell if he believed her or not, but Rayven began to almost plead with him.
Rayven Hardy: "Can you just, take me home? I don't want to drive right now. I'm shaking. He's...he's a snake. He doesn't belong at Nightfall..."
Gavin looked at Rayven then back at Dex. He didn’t know what to think or what to believe. Dex then spoke up before Gavin could respond.
Dex Morant: “It’s my fault, Gav. I mean, she did warn me not to show up to Nightfall this morning, I decided to call her bluff.”
Morant wiped the blood from his nose.
Dex Morant: “I guess that was a mistake. I didn’t think she’d pull something like this. But it’s okay, she’s frustrated. Just take her home. I’ll be okay. I’ll go inside and have Gloria check me out. She’s good at patching us all up.”
Gavin’s brow furrowed before he slowly nodded.
Gavin Grimes: “Yeah, alright Dex, go ahead inside.”
Gavin’s gaze turned to Rayven as Dexter walked away. Rayven watched Dexter was off though and he looked back at her with a grin as he flipped her off. Ray wanted to get up and go after him again but Gavin held her there.
Gavin Grimes: “Woah! Ray! Calm down, please. I’ll take you home, alright? I just don’t understand how this happened. Did he attack you?”
He looked at Rayven’s body and saw no bruises and frowned.
Rayven Hardy: "He did! He was holding my arm, right here. Really tight."
She looks at her arm and points to where he was holding...but there was nothing. No mark or proof that it ever happened. She could see the disappointment in Gavin's eyes.
Rayven Hardy: "No, no you don't understand, he did attack me. And he taunted me and pushed me to this. I'm not a violent person. I just wanted to work out and..."
He wasn't buying it, she could tell.
Rayven Hardy: "Please, Gavin, I haven't lied to you ever. I didn't start this. I know you trained him and he's someone you look at like a little brother, and you know how much you mean to me. I'd never ever pick a fight with someone you were that close with. I'm not even the type to fight outside of a ring. Just...please. You hve to believe me."
Gavin sighed and shook his head.
Gavin Grimes: “You both mean a lot to me and I know you don’t lie to me. But all I saw is you on top of him and you even busted him open..”
He pulled Rayven in for a tight hug.
Gavin Grimes: “I understand how this shit happens sometimes and I ain’t mad at ya. I think we just need to get you home and get you in bed. Where’s your car so I can take you home?”
Rayven looks down at the ground. She wasn't happy with how any of this was going down.
Rayven Hardy: "It's over there."
She points to her car, not looking back up at Gavin now.
Rayven Hardy: It's just...it's stupid. Gloria is overreacting, and you don't believe me. I can tell. Dex is a snake, I'm sorry but he is. And I don't take it back. He deserved it..."
Gavin looked down at Ray and shook his head.
Gavin Grimes: “I didn’t say I didn’t believe you. I’m just telling you what I saw. Please Ray, just relax and let’s get you some rest. You’re literally shaking right now. Once you get rest, we’ll talk it all over tomorrow, okay?”
He placed his hand on her chin gently and pulled her eyes up toward his.
Gavin Grimes: “Please?”
Rayven Hardy: "Yeah. Okay. I'm sorry."
Rayven walks away from Gavin, not in a disrespectful way, just so she could pick up her bag that was on the concrete. Scooping it up into her arms, she looks back at Gavin.
Rayven Hardy: "Thank you. I really don't think I can drive right now."
Gavin walked up to her and took her bag away and slung it over his shoulder.
Gavin Grimes: “Hey, I got you. That’s what friends are for. You know I’m always here for you.”
He then used his free arm to put it over her shoulder.
Gavin Grimes: “C’mon, let’s get outta here.”
The two of them then walked off to Rayven’s car. In the shadows, Dex Morant was watching, an ice pack on his nose as he smiled widely, knowing that he got under Rayven’s skin. It was exactly where he wanted her.
