OPENING SEGMENT
The show begins with three familiar figures standing in the ring: To the left, Robb Hardy, the general manager of Empire. To the right, his counterpart in Liberty, Jade Night. Standing between the two, the owner of Empire itself, Chuck Matthews. It’s the Smartest Man in Wrestling holding the microphone, and as the crowd settles down and the music fades, he smiles.
Chuck Matthews: “I believe we owe you fans an explanation.”
He gives a little sigh, like this is a chore, and something he feels he NEEDS to do, not something he particularly wants to.
Chuck Matthews: “You expect things to happen in a timely manner. Once upon a time, every week, you could expect a Liberation show and a Freedom show taking place in New York and Boston. Since my tenure, that’s been a Liberty show in New York, and an Empire show here in beautiful Canada.”
The crowd gives a small cheer at the mention of their home country.
Chuck Matthews: “Unfortunately, the transition of power from the Callaghans over to me have been… less than ideal. Things haven’t gone as smoothly as I would have liked.”
Jade shakes her head, and Robb looks a little irked at this as well; his employment, more likely than not, rests entirely on whether Chuck Matthews is able to keep ownership of Empire.
Chuck Matthews: “These delays, for those of you who haven’t kept up with the news, are due in large part to the tedious legal battle over who rightly owns this piece of Liberty Pro. There’s a lot of contractual things to discuss, separation of power, assets, determining where talent is required to be… and, with that, reworking the operations within Empire and Liberty now that one company has split into two.”
He shakes his head.
Chuck Matthews: “And then there was all the unpleasantness with Lily Callaghan…”
The crowd boos. Clearly, they remember all too well the reign of terror of Liberty under Nathan’s ex-wife.
Chuck Matthews: “You may be pleased to know that she’s been nothing but cooperative as we work through some of these-”
Brendan Callaghan: “Where is she??”
The Smartest Man in Wrestling is interrupted by the son of Lily Callaghan, who charges down the ramp like a man on a mission. Security around the ring steps in to block him off, but Brendan breaks through the line, sliding into the ring and getting right in the face of the owner of Empire.
Brendan Callaghan: “Where’s my mother, Chuck? Where are you keeping her?”
Jade buries her face in her hands and looks horribly embarrassed, and she immediately steps in to try and pull Brendan away and reassure him.
Brendan Callaghan: “I don’t know it was, but you did something to her. I saw how she spoke at the courthouse, I saw how she looked and how she spoke. I know my mom, she wouldn’t go down without a fight, and she definitely wouldn’t sit down and let anyone walk all over her like that.”
Jade Night: “BRENDAN.”
She’s yanking at his arm, trying desperately to calm Brendan down, trying to pull him away from the mastermind. Chuck looks taken aback by his outbursts, but remains calm.
Chuck Matthews: “Mr Callaghan… Brendan, please. Your mother is simply doing what’s best for the company. She made a deal, now she’s holding up her end, and ensuring that her piece of this company transfers over to me, and does so without issue.”
This is clearly not a satisfactory answer for Brendan, who opens his mouth to object further. Chuck’s familiar smile, the one that told Brendan that the businessman likely knew more than he was letting on, returns to Chuck’s face.
Chuck Matthews: “I’m very sorry that you feel that something is askew, and I couldn’t tell you why she’s failed to maintain any sort of contact with her family, but… to accuse me of foul play? To think that I have that sort of power, that sort of influence, that I can simply snap my fingers and silence anybody who stands in my way…”
He leans in close to Brandan, his smile widening just slightly. He covers the microphone with his hand, but not well enough to completely block out the sound… though, knowing Chuck, he may have wanted his voice to be picked up all along.
Chuck Matthews: “Well… that would certainly be something, wouldn’t it?”
He nods to the security who have entered the ring, and they seize Brendan, dragging him from the ring above his angry outbursts. Jade looks to Chuck with an apologetic stare, but Chuck gives a little nod, which Jade takes as permission to go. She hurries from the ring after Brendan, leaving Chuck alone with Robb in the ring. Chuck scratches his chin thoughtfully.
Chuck Matthews: “I have to apologize for all of the unpleasantness… as I was saying, the wheels of the legal process turn slowly, and I hope that, sooner rather than later, we’ll have all of this sorted, and won’t be experiencing any further delays in the entertainment you’ve come to expect from us. In the meantime though… do enjoy tonight’s show.”
He gives a nod to Robb, and the show cuts backstage.

SEGMENT
There’s a knock at the door of the locker shared by The LADS themselves, Emery Layton and Brianna Leigh Clark. The POV switches as a hand reaches for the door knob and swings the door open, and in front of them now is a group of kids of various ages dressed up in fairly festive sweaters with mooses on them.
“Hit it!”
Choir: O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
There’s a bit of nervous laughter as the camera pans back to see Brianna giving them a sort of stilted smile before she shuts the door part-way, abruptly.
Brianna Leigh Clark: “Ha…ha… what the fuck.”
Emery Layton: “Ayyyy, they made it! I saw this lot earlier on when I was pottering about in town. Dead good aren’t they?”
Em ruffles the hair of one of the boys at the front. He looks up.
Boy: “Yeah. So, can we have some money now please, we don’t work for free.”
Emery Layton: “What? Hey, you never said…well…I guess…er…”
Em looks around nervously as she pats down pockets she soon realises aren’t there. But then. It hits her.
Emery Layton: “Tell you what. Go down there, turn left, there’s a big door with ‘Inspired’ written on it and ask for Ricky Rodriguez. Go sing for him and he’ll pay you. If he asks who sent you just say it was his Ma, yeah?”
The boy nods. Em smiles and pats him on the shoulder.
Emery Layton: Good lads! Off you go. Night’s not getting any younger.
And like a troupe of singing soldiers, off they go.
Brianna Clark: “You know what.”
It’s very clear after a couple of seconds that Brianna is having a hell of a time keeping a straight face.
Brianna Clark: “Eh he deserves it after his little sneaky ways, so that evens up the scale a little.”
She claps her hands together abruptly and a thoughtful look comes to her then before she reaches over to hook her arm with Emery’s.
Brianna Clark: “So I had a thought. What if we just… used the Socialites to beat up the Inspired? Like literally, physically picked them up and used them to bludgeon the other team?”
Emery Layton: “Ay ay ay, listen we all know you could pick up both of the Socialites at the same time with like one hand like it’s nothing cos you’re the Superhoss of the LADS, but don’t count out them just yet. I done some research, know what I mean, I asked people. They’ve won so many tag team titles over the years they’ve got gold coming out of their ears. One of them’s even a Diamond Princess. She’s an heiress. I dunno to what, but I can only assume it’s something cool if it’s on a need to know basis like that. Us plebeians don’t get to know.”
She stops.
Emery Layton: “Wait. So hang on, if Danielle is the Diamond Princess then what’s Vanessa? Shouldn’t they both be diamond princesses if they’re sisters? Am I overthinking this? I think I am. But the point is we can’t count them out, Bri! Three teams! Socialites! Inspired! LADS! Big match right here in Empire Pro in Toronto, Canada!”
Cheap pop, which Em pauses for and gets.
Brianna Clark: “Welllll…. If they’ve had that many, then they surely don’t have room for any more, right? So the way I figure it, we are just kind of doing both teams a favour if we beat the hell out of them. Think about it this way. The Socialites Diamond whatevers, they don’t need one more of what they already supposed to have, and well, The Inspired, they need to lose. If they don’t lose, then they won’t be able to properly connect with their own target audience, you know, the people that actually fall for their ‘system’ and shell out money for over-priced Dick’s Sporting Goods clearance protein powder and what not. So… in conclusion, we’re being really nice to them, when you think about it.”
She grins at Emery, and gives her a little side hug since they’re all in by the doorway and all.
Brianna Clark: “It’s nice to be nice.”
Emery Layton: “And we’ll make it happen. The LADS are here in full force, and the thing that unites this match and what happens when I go back to the hotel room with Ricky Rodriguez’ Da tonight is simple- they’re both gonna end with me coming out on top.
And, with that declaration, off go The LADS as we move on.

SEGMENT
Backstage the CanAm Champion could be seen near the exit to the parking lot. He was already attired in his ring gear, his glistening prize on his shoulder. Brendan was clearly looking down to his feet, listening to someone speak. It wasn’t all clear who he was listening to, and the entire situation was as mysterious as the one only a few weeks ago, the Irish born sailor speaking to an off camera figure the night after his successful championship defence at Oblivion III over Cait Flanagan.
Brendan Samuels: This shouldn’t be somethin’ that is repeated…
Voice: Why not, lad? Ye saw how successful that trick were? Like I keep tellin’ ye, after ye plot the course, I be the one to get ye there. If ye follow me lead more often, the real glory days be ahead of ye.
Brendan Samuels: An’ ye say these ain’t the glory days?
Samuels stated, his eyes turning up at whoever he was speaking to. He didn’t seem happy at the mysterious figures words, evident by the scowl on the iceman’s face.
Voice: Not to yer high standards. Ye coastin’, Brendan, mind too much on them rocky waves at home rather than what be on in that ring. Ye cannae think straight. But if ye let me take the helm, there gonna be even more on the horizon. Trust me.
Anastasia Starling: Who are you talking to, Bren Bren?
Came another voice, higher pitched and sweet, almost breaking into a song. The figure of Anastasia Starling, one of Brendan’s longest known friends seemingly appeared out of nowhere, and the usually cool and calm Samuels now looked strangely on edge.
Brendan Samuels: Me? Nah, no one. Just getting in the zone for the match wit’ Tillman tonight.
Anastasia Starling: Right… Oakies. Good luck out there tonight. You got through Jack last time out, and he was a bit of a handful, he certainly was for Derrick a few weeks back as well. But tonight you have Patel, and they don’t call her The Lioness for nothing.
Ana tried to peer around him, looking for whoever Brendan had been talking to, but there didn’t seem to be anyone there. He couldn’t have been talking to himself, could he? Or did the mystery person seem to vanish into thin air?
Brendan Samuels: Aye, aye that be a name more than deserved. She’ll be wanting to make a statement to be sure, especially as she be mates with the GM. As for statements, same wit’ ye an’ Sky’s motley opponents.
The Songbird shook her head. She had a massive tag team match tonight, teaming with Sky against the current reigning Empire Tag Team Champions, The Lost. It had been a shot they had been awaiting for quite some time, and despite her long and successful career, title match jitters were always present for the high flying Songbird.
Anastasia Starling: We’ve been waiting for this opportunity for such a long time. Had setbacks, had the weight of numbers against us… But tonight we really have our chance to shine. Me and Sky aren’t going to let this slip away.
Brendan Samuels: Remember to keep ye eyes peeled, lass. Ye know how they play their games.
Brendan then patted Ana on her good shoulder, before pacing off towards ringside. Starling looked a little suspicious of the entire situation. Brendan seemed off, like he was hiding something, and Anastasia didn’t seem all too keen.
Skylar Rayner: Who was Brendan talking to?
Came the voice of Sky, her tag team partner. Ana was watching on, before turning to her tag team partner, giving a shrug.
Anastasia Starling: I honestly don’t know… it’s weird. He seems… different lately.
Starling let out a sigh, before turning to her dearest friend.
Anastasia Starling: Shall we go finish getting ready?
Skylar Rayner: I’ll catch up with you. Just got to go check something out with the media team. We have that new entrance video, and I want to make sure it plays out right.
Anastasia Starling: Oakies… but be careful. Backstage may as well be a battlefield these days.
Skylar nodded, giving her partner a wink as she turned away. Ana’s eyes watched her for a moment, until Starling then strutted off in the direction of the locker rooms. Strangely, there seemed to be someone watching in the distance, but the camera couldn’t quite pick out whoever it was.

SEGMENT
We cut to backstage where the Extreme Champion, Dylan Shepherd is standing backstage. He has the belt around his waist and a yellow wiffle ball bat with Lego pieces cut into the sides of it. He smiles that killer smile of his when he sees the camera is on and lets out a chuckle as he holds out the bat.
Dylan Shepherd: Well well, look what I got here. A new little creation of mine just for this match tonight. You see, it ain’t gonna be a world ender but she does pack a wallop. As anyone who has been hit by a wiffleball bat can tell you, it hurts like a bitch. In fact it can and does leave a nice warm welt much like a kendo stick would. Now think about how it feels to step on a Lego, add that to the sting of a wiffleball bat and baby… We got ourselves some fun.
He smirks as he slowly spins the bat for the camera to see. The pieces of Lego pushed into the cuts in the bat and then looks to be superglued in as well.
Dylan Shepherd: You see last go around in the Empire ring didn’t go my way, that’s why I gotta kick it up a notch tonight against Hilary. Even more so because the match tonight is for my Extreme Championship. Now, I know I’m devilishly handsome but this belt just adds to that and I can’t have that taken away. Plus, let’s be honest Hilary, the extreme life ain’t for you. So let’s go out there and have so fun and maybe I’ll buy you a beer afterwards to help with the sting of this beauty right here. Sound good?
He laughs and winks at the camera before leaving towards the ring area.

The Lads vs The Inspired & Socialites
RECAP This match was controlled by Inspired and Socialites with their numbers game but eventually, Ricky had a few arguments with the Socialites. Marisol tried to play peacemaker but it didn’t work. The Lads ended up picking up the win with Breaking Lad (BLC hits The Lariat on an opponent and Emery comes off the top rope with Wuthering Heights), nailing Ricky with it. MATCH FOUR: EXTREME CHAMPIONSHIP
Hilary Levandrier vs Dylan Shepherd
Hilary Levandrier vs Dylan Shepherd
RECAP This was a brutal match between Hilary and Dylan, both of them spilling blood and both showing that they wanted to win this badly. Hilary looked to take control near the end of the match but wait! A masked assailant laid her out with the Extreme Championship! Dylan took advantage and he hit his patented piledriver right onto a bunch of legos. He pinned Hilary and got the three and the win. WINNER Dylan Shepherd METHOD Pinfall MATCH LENGTH 12:32 FINISHING MOVE Piledriver onto legos POST MATCH With the match already over after Hilary was attacked, we see the masked assailant standing over her. The fans seem utterly confused, for the second show in a row, Hilary has been attacked by this mystery person. The person waves their hand for a microphone as one is slid into the ring. They pick the microphone up and hold it in one hand and slowly reach for their mask with the other hand. 'Who is it? Who is it? Who is it?' the fans began to chant as the person let go of the mask to milk it as the fans began to boo now. They want to know who it is. After the short tease, the hand slowly rises to the mask again, and as it's lifted up, long, dark hair falls down the person's back. The fans gasp as the mask is lifted fully off and dropped on the ground to reveal it to be none other than THE LIVING DOLL, BRITNEY ANDERS! The fans began to boo her now, knowing exactly who she is, but those boo's were drowned out by a mixture of applause as well. They don't know how to react to her. Britney Anders: Well well well, did anyone expect to see ME tonight? The Doll was grinning ear to ear as the camera focuses in on Hilary, who is still out of it on the mat. Britney walks a circle around her before leaning down and puffing out a pouty lip and mock rubs her eyes to shed fake tears. Britney Anders: Before anyone is stupid enough to ask, yes, I obviously attacked Hilary tonight and cost her a match, and yes, I attacked her at the last show. Now the not so stupid question would be, why? I've never met her before these last two shows. I've never interacted with her, so what sort of issues would I have with the girl? Well, it's not too complicated, but since I know some of you have issues with properly understanding things, please, put down your phones, refrain from taking my picture, clean your ears out and listen good, okay? OKAY! The reaction isn't so much mixed anymore as the fans begin to boo The Doll who is insulting them directly in front of them. Britney Anders: My issues with Hilary are actually personal and I'll explain why. She tries to be some party girl princess, when, to be blunt, she just isn't that pretty. I mean laying at my feet is the prettiest she's ever looked, right? The fans continue to boo Britney as the camera captures a still unconscious Hilary right next to Britney's boot. Britney Anders: She isn't even a real Canadian, but do you know who is basically Canadian at this point? ME! The people of Canada have adopted me, because I was their champion. History lesson for the less fortunate who missed my run in CGW as their World Champion, I had a reign unlike any other in modern sports. I was a fighting champion, the TRUE Princess of Canada, and everything Hilary is trying to be, I am. Now, let me speak to the little creature herself. Britney purses her lips together into a snarl and leans down to one knee. She leans her face close to Hilary's. Britney Anders: Before you ran around impersonating someone, Hil, you should have checked to make sure they weren't a free agent. What Empire has done is signed the hottest free agent in all of professional wrestling. I'm a former world champion in three different companies. I'm THE definitive Doll of professional wrestling, and Hilary, I'm every bit your superior. You're welcome. Anders stands back up and puts her boot on Hilary's chest as her music begins to play to a still shocked Ricoh Coliseum! |

Sparrow is backstage at the Ricoh Coliseum and although dressed in his ring gear for a match...The match he has been seemingly salivating for against ‘Mongrel’, he comes off as slightly unhinged in front of the camera. He’s not even taking a look at it or hears the cameraman clearing his throat. The West Indian Whirlwind continues staring, mad eyes wide and wild. His ring gear of choice is simple, black and white...Save for four checkboxes, with only two of them ticked in red checkmarks. The names next to the boxes? Lily Callaghan and Ryan Callaghan? A massive corkboard on the wall, with various pictures of wrestlers, ex-wreslers, management in power, blurred out faces, and too many yellow sticky notes with random scribblings. At the very top of the corkboard is Chuck Matthews’ face badily photoshopped on the body of Thanos from Marvel Comics. The strings tied around Chuck’s pin are like a spiderweb, reaching out all over the board. One is a picture of Mongrel, of which there’s a picture of Dante right next to it. Another pin connected to Chuck’s string is one of the Vatican, and yet another is a picture of the Flag of Europe, obviously representing the European Union. Then there’s a string connected to some blurred faces, with a yellow sticky note reading ‘Canadian Mafia’. Each picture or sticky note is a bit more insane than the last, and there are...
Many. Even Robb Hardy and Jade Night are on there, their pins strung to Chuck’s pin in a color green. If there’s any code to this, it’s hard to tell. The string connected to Dante’s...Err, Mongel? Dante? Whoever he is, is red. The Vatican? Red. European Union? Black. Canadian Mafia? Red.

All because I wouldn’t play ball? Must’ve been. Why me? Why me? I keep asking myself that...One day I’ll get an answer. Spite. It’s all spite. No...No, it can’t just be spite...There has to be more.
Backstage Crewman: Uh--uuhhmm...Don’t you think--
Sparrow: Then I looked back at what I know about Chuck. He’s Catholic. A very prominent Catholic. He gives a very modest donation. Tithes for the church and all that yes, but it only looks modest. See he has to do it through other means, especially for the amount of money he has. Liquid assets.
Backstage Crewman: Do you even know what liquid assets are?
Sparrow completely ignores him, muttering quietly to himself.
Sparrow: He does all this through Dante. Mongrel. Whoever that guy is. Chuck could have had Marcus fired for wailing on Dante the first time and putting out but he didn’t. You know why? Because Dante’s part of it. Yeah. Yeah. Keeps Blyss’s hands clean while Dante does his shit in the background. That’s why Dante wasn’t part of the draft. He rehabbed sooner but of course...Of course he was already heading to Montreal to scout things. Why do you think we’re based in Toronto? Chuck doesn’t actually want us in Montreal. That’s where his business is. Don’t you see the connections? What’s the biggest Christian denomination in Canada? Catholic. Where’s the Canadian Mafia almost entirely based in? Montreal. What city is considered North America’s biggest bastion for Catholic faith especially pushing back against Protestant Canada? Mon. Tre. Al.

Backstage Crewman: Oh--okay. Where does the EU fit in with this? Why would Canada--
Sparrow: Canada has had a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with the European Union and its member states since 2016 ya see. Who has deep tendrils in the EU since WWII? The Vatican. Who makes deep contributions to the pockets of the Vatican? Ay. You wanna know who attended that meeting? Chuck Matthews. You wanna know who was one of his security? A young Dante Locke. That’s right. Dante has been working security for Matthews for years. Years. Look at ‘im. Look at him ya see. You think this level of subtrefuge is just instinct? You think him throwing himself at every opportunity, every moment, every situation to protect Blyss Lockhart is just because he wants to go home and be a family man with she? No, no, no, all this requires training. Tactics. Right place, right time, all the time. All those times he tries to run over people with cars?
The West Indian Whirlwind points at one string to another, tapping his fingers on a piece of paper that looks like it was fished out a dumpster. Best not to ask questions with the brown stains and yellowed material.

Maybe Dante is a nephew of a nephew. Boom, boom, boom, Chuck lets him run part of his security during fun excursions to pushing the Catholic fist in the name of world control. He likes Dante’s work, likes what he brings to the table.
Backstage Crewman: ...Okay, and why aren’t “Secret Agent” Dante much less Mr. Matthews having you killed for saying all of that and letting it get into public knowledge?
Sparrow: Catholic guilt.

Sparrow: Look, look I even have footage that has been dramatically recreated. You can see how Dante or Mongrel would change so fast. He runs to the bathroom outside the arena, door swings to the left, he comes back as Mongrel. Back...And to the left. Back...And to the left...Back...
The crewman quietly put his hands on the West Indian Whirlwind’s shoulders.
Backstage Crewman: Listen. You gotta let all this go man. Okay? I get it. You really hate Blyss. You really hate Dante. You hate your sister, you hate the day you were born, you’ve just got a lot of...Pent-up anger. You feel like you got a bum deal trying to get rid of Lily for months, you want to make Blyss pay, and you’re incensed that Dante gets to wear a mask and kept his job anyway after everything. Sparrow blinks.
Backstage Crewman: So why don’t you just...Go, beat the shit out of whoever he is today, stop whining about title shots, conspiracies, and whatever else you’re owed, and I dunno, wrestle?

Robb grabbed what was in Mongrel’s pocket and it was his phone with a fart app open.
Robb Hardy: Riiight… Go out there and fight this match or else you’re fired and Blyss is suspended.
Mongrel: You can’t do this! Chuck won’t be happy with you!
Robb pointed at Mongrel.
Robb Hardy: Shut the fuck up and get outta here!
Mongrel looked like he was about to punch Robb but he paused before shaking his head.
Mongrel: Whatever! If Sparrow ends up getting hurt, it’s on you!
He stormed off and Robb stood there shaking his head.
The Mongrel was standing in front of Robb Hardy’s office. He knocked on the door a few times before it swung up and there was the GM, Robb Hardy, standing there with a confused look on his face.
Robb Hardy: Mongrel? What are you doing here?
Mongrel shook his head.
Mongrel: I don’t think I should go out and fight tonight. My stomach is killing me. I think I might have the bubble guts.
Suddenly a farting sound can be heard.
Robb Hardy: Why is there a fart sound coming from your pocket?
Mongrel gasps.
Mongrel: What do you mean? It came from… You know!

The Mongrel vs Sparrow
NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH
The Mongrel vs Sparrow
RECAP Sparrow entered the match first but Mongrel attacked him during his entrance! This gave Mongrel control in the early going as he controlled the No Holds Barred match, using every weapon imaginable to try and take out Sparrow. The thing is? Sparrow was the first ever and creator of the KONY Championship, so he knows how to hardcore. Needless to say, Mongrel couldn’t keep the former Freedom Champion down. The match took a turn for the worse for Mongrel when he tried to hit Sparrow with a sledgehammer but Sparrow ducked it before somehow kicking the sledgehammer right into Mongrel’s head!!! Sparrow had full control and he took his time now. He targeted the leg of Mongrel, slamming chairs, kendo sticks, trash can lids, you name it, over his leg. Sparrow then locked Mongrel into Bass Reeves Special (Chickenwing Camel Clutch)! Mongrel screamed in agony before he started to pass out. The referee raised his arm to drop it but Sparrow let go of the hold. He said he wasn’t done yet. He grabbed the mask of Mongrel and pulled it off to reveal… ANOTHER MASK!? Sparrow rolled his eyes before he pulled off the second one and to no one’ surprise… It’s Dante Locke! Dante yelled and covered his face before Sparrow nailed The Notorious K.I.C.K. - Standing Double Foot Stomp! He then wrapped a chair around Dante’s leg and then hit the top ropes. Sparrow leaped off and BANG! He stomped on the chair, nailing The Notorious K.I.C.K. II - Top Rope Double Foot Stomp, crushing Dante’s leg in the process, most likely breaking it. Dante rolled around screamed as Sparrow calmly leaned down, holding the mask in front of Dante and saying something that we can’t hear. Sparrow then pinned Dante and got the three count and the win. It appears that the Mighty Sparrow has finally rid himself of Dante Locke. WINNER Sparrow METHOD Pinfall MATCH LENGTH 16:32 FINISHING MOVE The Notorious K.I.C.K. II |
SEGMENT
After the last exciting contest, the camera switched to the backstage area. It picked up in one of the locker rooms, a large vanity mirror being the focal point of the view. Attired in traditional red and white, Anastasia Starling was slipping on her leather jacket, a dazzling silver Songbird emblazoned on the back. Her curls had been tied in a long braid, her eyeshadow matching her rich cherry lips and those heterochromia afflicted eyes of hers stared deeply at her own reflection.
Anastasia Starling: This is it… This is what we set out to do.
She muttered under her breath, those sweet tones almost echoing out like a song. She closed her eyes for a moment, before she heard the door open, catching the image of the person who had entered in the vanity mirror. The softest of smiles appeared on her elfin features, but she did not turn.
Anastasia Starling: Were you trying to scare me into thinking you weren’t coming back? You’ve been gone for ages.
Skylar Rayner: Yeah, sorry about that… I didn’t mean to worry you, I just got held up by the cutest SkyBird fan.
Sky replied to her tag partner with a sweet smile, walking up to her and standing in front of the mirror, right next to Ana.
Skylar Rayner: You should’ve seen her in her cute little shirt… And what I mean by that is that you will see her, because I promised her you’ll join us for some pictures after the match.
The Songbird turned to her side, gazing at the tall Dane with a look of admiration in her eyes.
Anastasia Starling: A promise is a promise. We’ll have to keep it.
She looked back into the mirror, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face as she let out a gentle sigh.
Anastasia Starling: I don’t mean to worry. Just backstage here is like a warzone lately. Not just here, but everywhere. Even bodyguards need bodyguards it seems. And with The Lost having the numbers advantage, it just leaves me a little concerned.
She span on her heels to face her partner and dearest friend, gazing up at the taller woman as she reached out for her hand.
Anastasia Starling: Not like we haven’t dealt with such problems before, but with the championship on the line it left me a little jittery.
The former interviewer nodded in agreement with her friend, a long sigh escaping her lips at the mention of the challenging situation they were in.
Skylar Rayner: Yeah, once again the odds seem to be stacked against us. Story of our lives, right? Good thing is, we have plenty of experience in fighting uphill battles.
Despite the smile and the confident facade, you could see that she shared the same concerns as her partner, although she was trying to hide it.
Skylar Rayner: I have a good feeling about tonight. We watched a lot of tapes of our opponents, including their match against B3 when they won the titles. We are ready for them, we are ready to become #ThreeBeltsSkyBird…
She raised an eyebrow, looking at the other half of the team.
Skylar Rayner: Or is it Six Belts?
Starling let out a slight giggle, scratching the side of her head as she pondered the question.
Anastasia Starling: I mean… technically it’s six belts? It’s three titles, but it would be six in total.
She blinked a couple of times before perching herself on the table, idly kicking her legs back and forth as she reached for the pink case by her side.
Anastasia Starling: You know, back at Conquest 58, in this very same arena in Toronto, we were really feeling down and out. We thought we had already earned this shot after beating B3, but then we were robbed of it. We thought we had the GCW titles in our grasp, and those were snatched away from us.
She opened the case, revealing four glistening championship belts, the plates twinkling in the artificial light. Pulling two of the belts out, one was revealed as the GCW World Tag Team Championship belt, while the other was for the Underground Tornado Championships. She stared at them for a moment, then looked over to her partner.
Anastasia Starling: And now, just a few short months later, we’ve finally won our shot at the Empire Tag titles… We’ve overcome every obstacle to finally win the GCW gold, and we are still the undisputed Queens of Tornado wrestling in the Underground. And things turned for the better that night at Conquest 58, when we marched on down to the ring and we showed The Inspired and the Socialites, and The Lost, that this is where we belong.
She placed the two belts on Skylar’s shoulders, before reaching for her own title belts.
Anastasia Starling: It’s a blessing to be at the very tip top of a tag team division. It’s so rare to be champion of two companies at the same time. But I can’t recall off the top of my head if any teams in the modern era have been at the top of the mountain in three separate companies at the same time. This is unprecedented for some… This could be history making in our careers.
Starling looked over at Sky, gazing at her holding onto those two title belts tightly.
Anastasia Starling: And you look absolutely amazing with gold on both shoulders… But would look even better with another title around your waist.
The Dane turned around, looking at her image reflected in the mirror, trying to imagine the EPW Tag Team championship adorning her waist.
Skylar Rayner: Yeah, it’s kinda crazy. More so if you look at the kind of competition we had to beat, not to mention all the roadblocks they threw in our way. Even here in Empire.
She turned back to Ana, grabbing her hands and gently pulling her on her feet. She then went to grab the other two titles and carefully placed them on her partner’s shoulders. It looked like SkyBird was about to walk out in full regalia tonight.
Skylar Rayner: But we never gave up, we never tried to take the easy way. Every time we fell, we got back up and pushed through. These two titles, hopefully three after tonight, don’t come from cheating or from being handed opportunities. They’re the product of our hard work and tenacity, of the love and support of our fans, the light that guided us in our darkest moments. And that’s why we will not fail tonight.
Anastasia looked up at Skylar as she spoke. She couldn’t keep her eyes off of her, and softly bit her lower lip before blushing slightly.
Anastasia Starling: They’ve always had our backs, and it means so much. But we’ve always had each other's backs as well. I know teaming up wasn’t our original plan when we came here, and being drafted together by Robb Hardy came kind of outta the blue… But I think that was definitely the best for us, and what was best for the division as well.
She hopped down from the table, smiling gleefully at her dearest friend and tag team partner.
Anastasia Starling: We’ve earned this. We’ve deserved this. And we’re going to fight for this. Together.
She patted the two titles on her shoulders, drumming lightly upon them as she stood on her tip toes.
Anastasia Starling: And there is also a little SkyBird fan out there awaiting a picture with us after the show… And I think it would be a treat for them to have that picture holding onto six of the most prestigious belts in the business.
Skylar Rayner: I’m pretty sure that would make her day… Her week even!
Sky quickly replied with enthusiasm.
Skylar Rayner: Are you ready to make history, partner?
Anastasia reached out and took her partner by the hand, giving her a little wink as she stuck out her tongue playfully.
Anastasia Starling: Let’s go put some smiles on faces…
She stated, using the popular line SkyBird had been known for using. The number one contenders then walked out of the room hand in hand, on their way to possible history making glory.
