She could say that life was never boring. A reason for her departure from social media was the overwhelming anxiety of dealing with it that it had upon her personal life. Not the business aspect of course, but seeing her friends and family fight, going through strife, dealing with everything and still being made to speak about it publicly. It had become overwhelming, but one thing she always tried to do was never let it affect her at home.
Jewels and Corey had their safe space here and if that started to become contaminated. . . well Jewels wasn’t really sure what she would do.
“This Conversation is driving me Loco” She’d sent out into the universe, just moments after one of Corey’s hit the servers and before she could say anything more he’d hit her with a “fine, I’ll stop, I’m going for a walk.”
a walk Jewels furrowed her brows at that and hopped up from where she was laying on the bed to race out of their bedroom and downstairs. Despite it being however late in the evening, Jewels still had her full hair and make-up, high heeled shoes, her dinner dress and as quickly as she moved he was just a little faster, as he had already gone out the door. She was hesitant at first, and that alarmed her almost.
Jewels. . . wasn’t afraid of anything, except for maybe Montezuma’s Revenge, but. . . that was a story for another time.
She wasn’t afraid of anything truly, least of all Corey. So why had she hesitated.
The truth was, when he was angry like this. . . he scared her. Not in the traditional “I am afraid you’re going to do something to me” but more so “I am scared what you will do in general” She had hardly ever seen him angry and when he was it was never directed at her or towards anyone she cared about truly, but this was her sister that he’d gotten upset at. Her flesh and blood, and for the both of them, familia was one of the most important things.
Yet, still it was only a moment before she’d grabbed her coat, throwing it on and raced out the door behind him. When he was fuming though that walk had to turn into a run for her, and while she was quite a master of high heels they weren’t the best running shoes.
Racing after him she called his name once or twice, to which he either didn’t hear her, or was choosing to ignore, causing her to scream out his full name.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“Corey Albie Grimes!”
She had never done that before obviously, and she knew it would make him cringe, but she also knew that would get his attention. He had stopped for a moment clearly, upset still as she caught up to him, hesitant to grab his hand or really to do anything that might make him react. She questioned what was going on in his mind, what had triggered him so greatly? It was definitely not just this situation. Or was it? She wasn’t sure.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“Hey. . . we don’t do that you know.”
She stated, now intently staring at him, and before she even realized she’d done it, she grabbed his hand. It didn’t matter how mad he was, she knew he wouldn’t react to her in any other way but positively.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“The Storming out angrily, I mean.”
She said, clarifying. It was a deal she’d made long ago when she had been pissed off at Gavin and the Espada, for the way they were acting. Mind you, she supposed that should’ve been the first tell-tale sign, but when she’d stormed out of one of the group’s meetings she’d tried to bottle it all up and she and Corey had made this deal with one another that they wouldn’t hold anything in. It was one of the few things that made their relationship work the way that it did. Open communication, honesty even at the sake of being brutal. It helped to put it all out there so they could work on what they needed to, although until now there wasn’t really much.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“You want to tell me what’s really bothering you?”
She asked, placing her free hand on her hip. Sliding closer to him.
Corey listened to her before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. He exhaled slowly before he shook his head.
Corey Grimes:
"I'm sorry, Jewels. I'm not meaning to blow up but you know how family means everything to you? Well, it means everything to me too. And for your sister to..."
Corey paused and he grinded his teeth before clicking his tongue and shaking his head again.
Corey Grimes:
"She's out there partying with a guy who's threatened the lives of my family. The problems he has with Gavin shouldn't have made everyone else a target. But he kidnapped Sammy... Sammy has been a part of our family for not even a year! We just found out about him and Jack had his people take Sammy and torture him. This isn't a fucking game."
Corey pulled her hand away from Jewels and clenched his fists. She had never seen him this angry before.
Corey Grimes:
"And then he had the audacity to put his hands around Sophie's throat when she was conducting an interview with him in High Roller. She was doing her job. But hey, that's what kind of human being this guy is and your sister is palling around with him. You all should know better and I'm not going to play nice about this. Gavin and Skye? They started that shit with Jack so whatever happens to them, happens. But I won't see the rest of my family get hurt. I fucking refuse."
She stared at him emphatically, knowing this anger was not his usual and earnestly she hated to see him this way, there was some trepidation in how she was approaching him before she spoke.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“I hear you.”
She stated in response which seemed such a silly phrase to say but there were times when it maybe seemed that jewels didn’t always absorb everything the other party was saying.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“I know family is important to you babe, do you think I admire you just for your looks alone?”
She would’ve laughed at that moment but she knew it wasn’t appropriate.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“I’m the first to say I don’t approve, a grown man giving someone who isn’t even legal drinking age beer, and it just so happens to be him. I can’t control what they do though, and I do know better for the record. I do, they however may not be as wise.
The best I can do is advise them but they are both grown and capable of their own decisions”
She wanted to reflect more but truthfully whatever she could say was probably a deterrent to what he was feeling in that moment. She just wanted to fix things but she knew she couldn’t.
Corey wasn’t hearing any of it right now. There was no reasoning with him at this moment in this situation. He scoffed and threw his hands up in the air.
Corey Grimes:
“It’s bigger than you think it is, Jewels. What if something happens to them? Then you’re going to put your fucking superhero cape on and try to go fix it? Pick up the pieces?”
He pointed at her then back at himself.
Corey Grimes:
“And then I’ll be rushing in right after you. I don’t want that for either of us. Clearly, you can handle your own in the ring and so can I. But this is more than in ring shit. It’s dangerous and I’ve seen you get dragged into shit before, like The Espada. You got fucked over how many times?”
He sighed and looked away.
Corey Grimes:
“I just don’t want us to come back to some bullshit that we shouldn’t even have to deal with. I’ve held my breath long enough when it comes to Jack because I’m hoping Gavin finally deals with it and stops dicking around. But we both know he isn’t really reliable either. They’re both fucking selfish pricks. Gavin and Jack were meant for each other and if I had it my way? I would keep everyone in my family and your family away from both.”
In a way she wasn’t sure what to say, clearly seeing him like this was not the norm and the more he carried on the more she was concerned he was about to lose it entirely. She was speechless truthfully, Corey had never so much as raised his voice at her, let alone evoke this sort of rage. She understood it but that didn’t make it any easier.
She was quiet for several moments more, wondering what she should even say or if she should even say anything at all.
She was trying to remain calm but all of these things harping on her lately were only culminating and Corey was always her solid rock, if he was blowing a gasket, what was going to happen when she finally gave way and started to blow.
It was unfair really because he had every right to explode and let his emotions go and yet part of her didn’t want him too, because seeing him vulnerable like this was something she herself had long since tried to avoid expressing in her own identity.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“So what do you want from me here Corey? You want me to pretend to be their mother and tell them to stay away from him? The only thing that is going to do is push both of them further away from me.”
She paused momentarily trying to keep her voice steady.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“And I know the Espada wasn’t the best career move, but I wouldn’t have traded that for the world. I got so close to Izzi and Chloe but I never did that shit for Gavin, I did it for you because Tu familia es mi familia”
She wasn’t mad but there was some hurt in her voice because he was right she had put her body through hell, that war games match had given her injuries she never spoke about until it began to hurt her so bad that she had no choice. She did wear a cape at times when it came to her family, but it sounded like all he wanted from this was to safeguard everything around them and wrap them in bubble wrap. It was impossible.
But jewels understood the sentiment, damn it she loved the man for it but she felt so lost on how to help this, how could She fix it?
Corey scoffed and shook his head.
Corey Grimes:
"Jewels... I love you but you're being soft with this. You're scared to push them away? By telling them to be responsible?"
He grabbed Jewels hands with his as he looked into her eyes.
Corey Grimes:
"I love you. I know there's been a lot going on with your family and that it's been a tough year but sometimes, you need to be tough on them. If they run off? Then they weren't worth it and they're dumb. But they need to guide them and that means you have to be tough. This soft shit? It's not you."
He pulled Jewels closer toward him.
Corey Grimes:
"My love, whatever happens, I'll be with you every step of the way. If shit hits the fan, I'm not going anywhere. But I don't want it to hit the fan. I'm trying to do whatever I can to avoid that because I want to protect you and everyone around you and around me. Can't you see that? So please, show those two girls some tough love... They need it.:
Suddenly the Corey she knew and loved reappeared almost like the angry man she’d just seen hadn’t been there at all, that is until he called her soft and she was tempted to punch him in the arm, but somehow resisted the urge. When it came to her cousin and sister things were complex. She and Jaymie especially had their issues when it came to her mother, but at the same time she knew how much her sister looked up to her and how she wanted her to make her own way without her guiding hand so to speak, not because she didn’t want to guide her but because she didn’t want Jaymie to ever doubt her own intuition and capabilities. It was obviously a difficult thing to understand and she couldn’t weigh in on just how much she didn’t want to lose the relationship they had become accustomed to.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“I’m going to show you soft, Grimes”
She mumbled though obviously receptive to his hug. She understood his anger, and she knew despite his wanting to protect them, relying on Gavin to do so was not the best course of action.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“I know you want to protect us all and that’s what I’m trying to do too. But you know he isn’t going to step up and do what needs to be done and I think that is your reluctance”
She stated with an earnest expression.
Corey sighs and nods. He knew that he needed to find a middle ground with Jewels, and that is exactly why his stance and his attitude relaxed and his anger subsided. He knew it was something that Jewels wasn't used to seeing when it came to him, and he didn't want her to see that again.
Corey Grimes:
"Don't give me that. I know you're not soft, lover, but you're going easy on your sister and cousin when you have to be stern. And yeah, Gav isn't going to step up if shit goes south. But I will. We will."
He paused and looked away for a moment.
Corey Grimes:
"To be honest, though? I'd like to teach him and his new flavor of the month a lesson though. For doing shit that got Sammy involved and then acting nonchalant about it."
There was a moment taken before she let out a giant sigh. If she could’ve melted when he hugged her she would have. While she loved to look at herself as this true embodiment of strength there was a lot of shit she carried. Most dealt with their families in minuscule ways but Jewels had the entire legacy of her wrestling family relying on her, not just that but she also sent money to her father and her brothers who were in financial hardship without her support. It was a lot to handle for a woman of 23 years but she had no choice in that matter, maybe this was why she didn’t want to pressure her sister or her cousin. She knew what it felt like.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“Fine. I’ll try and talk to them about it. Jaymie and I are headed to Mexico for that show I was telling you about, we can talk about it then.”
She let out a sigh.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“As for Laia? I’m not sure she will listen to me, but maybe.”
She paused again.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“As for him, I know you want to get your hands on him and I think that’s fair, you just let me know what you decide to do.”
She seemed very serious with it, right before slapping him on the chest. It wasn’t hard but enough to easily get his attention.
Juliana Rodriguez:
“Unless you call me soft again, then we’re going to see about that GrImEs!”
She laughed as she pretended to glare at him still wrapped in his arms.
He can't help but laugh as he squeezed her closer toward him.
Corey Grimes:
"I don't plan on calling you soft again, I promise!"
He leaned in and stole a quick kiss.
Corey Grimes:
"Because you're the strongest person I know."
