We’re introduced to a dark set, with the lighting dim in the background, but in the forefront, we see two stools. On one of those stools sits the young reporter who has now been featured on Millennium, Liberty, Empire, and MWCW, Rylee Robinson. She adjusts the clip on microphone that was hanging from her shirt and looks over at her guest, the incomparable, GEW Grand Champion, Jack Graves.
Rylee Robinson: Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the very first episode of #TheRyleeReport. This isn’t your typical sit down interview, where someone lobs softballs, no, I’m going to ask the questions that the people want the answers to, respectfully of course. For my first episode, I knew I had to get someone special. Someone that pulls no punches, and really, there was only one option. Grand Endurance Wrestling’s Grand Champion, Empire Pro recent draftee, member of The Division, of course I’m talking about Jack Graves. Jack, welcome, and thank you for being the very first guest on my show.
Jack Graves: Thanks for havin’ me. Been looking forward to this.
Rylee Robinson: You know it’s funny, before this interview, I even reached out to Jack to ask if there was anything that was absolutely, positively off limits, and Jack, to his credit, said hell no. So this will definitely be an uncensored, no holds barred interview.
Jack nods his head as Rylee continues.
Rylee Robinson: Recently, you were engaged in an all-out war of a feud with Gavin Grimes, not only over the GEW Grand Endurance Championship, but, it got personal. You actually attacked one of his family members, walk us through that. What was that about?
Jack arches an eyebrow and he begins to laugh softly at the question.
Jack Graves: You really are coming out hot huh? Look, I’ve said it multiple times and I’ll say it again. I wasn’t the one that snatched that kid, and even if I were the one who snatched him and beat him like a Cherokee drum, I’d be a fool to admit something like that on live television. Come on Rylee.
Jack shrugs, settling back into his chair to get comfortable with a cocky smile on his face.
Jack Graves: But you’re right, it was an all-out war. I have a newfound respect for Grimes after that last match, even. He stared death in the eyes and he didn’t back down. I respect a man like that.
Rylee Robinson: The respect seems to be mutual from his end too, but fair enough on the hot question. I told you this wasn’t about to be like any other interview!
The pair share a laugh as Rylee kicks her right leg back and forth a bit as it was crossed over the other leg on her stool.
Rylee Robinson: I feel like the fans know who you are at your core, right? You’ve never hidden anything from them. From the dark past, to the violent present, you’ve been a pretty open book, so let’s dig into the bonus chapters a bit. Share something with me, with your fans, and even your detractors, that people might not know about you? It could be personal, professional, anything.
Jack considers her question for a moment as he pulls out a pack of pre-rolled joints. He places one of the cones between his lips, and his hand slips into his pocket to fish out his lighter.
Jack Graves: Hm. Well, I mean… not many people know I’m diabetic. I take a weekly shot and pills daily. That’s why you won’t see me drinking sodas or eating a ton of sweets. I cheat every now and then and treat myself to something small but for the most part it’s zero sugar stuff for me.
Jack motions to the joint as he raises his lighter.
Jack Graves: You mind?
Rylee Robinson: Not at all, do your thing.
She looks over to both cameras and smirks a bit as cloud smokes begin to fill the set, but that wasn’t deterring Rylee from continuing.
Rylee Robinson: I feel like it’s fun to get to know someone on a more personal level, so thanks for opening up. I’ll switch back to business. GEW, Grand Endurance Wrestling is a company that has kind of changed the way things are in the wrestling business. Hosting pop up shows, and collaborating with other top tier promotions, they have seen their share of talent walk through the curtain, but you, Jack, are the top dog.
Jack nods, taking in what she’s saying as he takes another hit from his joint.
Rylee Robinson: Obviously we touched on the Gavin stuff a bit, but recently you’ve got into a war of words with another champion in GEW, Kendrick Kross. Is he someone that’s on your radar when you talk about defending the Grand Endurance Championship, or are you looking at someone else?
Jack shrugs, exhaling a cloud of smoke.
Jack Graves: Hell yeah I’m looking at putting up my belt against him. Champion versus champion. You see, the thing about Kenny is he likes to bark…a lot… but I like to bite. If he wants some, then he can come get some, just like anyone else. These hands are rated E for everyone. They don’t discriminate. Whether I respect you, or in Kross’ case… not. I’ll still put a life changing beat down on you when it comes to MY GEW Grand Championship. You can consider a match with me a “Come to Jesus” meeting. Because if you don’t watch your step I’ll send you into his loving embrace.
Jack laughs a little, french inhaling some smoke as he makes eye contact with Rylee.
Jack Graves: You said that GEW changed the game by collaborating with top tier promotions Rylee, but you’re wrong. I changed the game by defending this title the way that I have. Anywhere, any fuckin’ time, and any stipulation. I’ve bled for this belt and I put GEW on my back each time I step into an arena, no matter where that arena is. Kendrick Kross thinks he is something special but that little twerp has never been in the ring with a stone cold killer like me and he sure as SHIT ain’t selling tickets like ol’ Jacky Boy either. BECAUSE Kendrick Kross couldn’t draw a circle and I’ll send his ass to an early retirement if he doesn’t watch how he speaks to me. You can quote that. Hand deliver it to his bitch ass.
Jack looks into the camera and gives it one hell of a mean mug.
Jack Graves: Anywhere, anytime, Kross.
Rylee mouths ‘wow’ at the camera with emphasis before running a hand through her curly hair. Jack was turning the heat up and holding nothing back.
Rylee Robinson: Don’t worry, I think he’ll be seeing it on his own, but I’ll make sure he does take a look at it. I have to thank you for being so candid with your answers, you’re making this a memorable first episode of my new show. Another thing I wanted to touch on was your appearance for Suplex Co just a few months ago. You have family who wrestled on their debut show, before the company went on a brief hiatus, but what really got people talking was how someone with so much clout in wrestling, was in an audience of about fifty people or so.
Rylee keeps strong eye contact with Jack as she continues.
Rylee Robinson: Explain to me how important that was? Being there for your family, and honestly, showing the world that you remain humble even as you’re experiencing massive success of your own. To see you front and center, as a fan, for such a cult like show was certainly something special. What did it mean to you, to stay rooted in family, and in reality, as everything around you was so much larger of a spectacle, career wise.
Jack nods, keeping eye contact with her as well until he finishes off his joint and puts it out in an empty beer can on the table beside him. Pausing, he lifts a red solo cup and takes a drink before answering the question.
Jack Graves: It was super important. Even if that wasn’t my family and I wasn’t there to support her, I believe that showing the indies love is crucial. I came up wrestling for small crowds like that in bingo halls and high school gyms. Before Liberty signed me, the biggest show I’d ever wrestled was the state fair. If someone important hadn’t seen that show then I’d still be down there doing the same damn thing. Wrestling for gas money and for the love of the game. Sure, wrestling because you love it is great, but it doesn’t pay the bills. You’ve got incredible talent hidden away like gems in these hole-in-the-wall promotions and the only way we discover them is by showing up and showing them love. Just so happens I showed up to this one in support of Ashley, who deserves all the love and support she can get.
Rylee Robinson: That’s real. I hope she bounces back and gets a chance somewhere if Suplex Co decides not to re-open, but I won’t keep you much longer. I know you’ve got some big matches coming up, obviously the one in Empire, the pending match with Kendrick Kross, and who knows what else. This is your time, Jack. Plug your social media, tell the people where they can find you, and let us know what else we should expect from Jack Graves in 2023.
Jack downs the rest of his drink and places the cup aside. Both of them then stand and Jack offers her a fist bump.
Jack Graves: I’m sure she will. She’s got Graves blood in her. But hey, thanks again for having me Rylee. As for my social media, you can find me on Twitter @nashvillainjack, and you can catch me at Empire Pro, Valiant, or GEW any given day of the week whoopin’ wholesale ass. What you can expect in the future though? Well…I’ve got a number one contender match coming up in Empire as you mentioned, so I’d have to say that my goal in 2023 is to be a double champion. Champ Champ. In the meantime though, I’m taking on all challengers for this baby right here.
Jack holds up his GEW Grand Championship and it glints in the light for the camera.
Rylee Robinson: And that wraps up my very first episode of #TheRyleeReport. I want to thank Jack again for coming through and keeping it as real as only he can. Until next time, stay safe, stay educated, and stay true to yourself. Much love, guys.
Jack and Rylee both hold up peace signs as the camera fades out.
