The small private beach that lead off of the beach house she had booked at the last minute was perfect. Almost everyone that would usually be visiting the island was busy with Christmas plans and so they had the whole place practically to themselves. Which is why Charli was sitting out on the beach in a bikini on a very nice lounge chair, a glass of juice in her hand and not a care in the world.
”Babe?” She called out to Kian, before resting her head back on the lounger and just enjoying the warmth of the sun. This was what she needed, she needed to recharge and reset and even if it was going to cost her greatly to do it… she was happy to do it all the same.
Kian stepped out from the beach house, a towel slung over his shoulder and a cold bottle of water in his hand. His eyes immediately found Charli, lounging effortlessly on the chair, looking like she had nothing to worry about in the world. He couldn’t help but smile at the sight, though a part of him still carried the sting of his loss to Haven—and the implications of what was to come.
The soft crash of the waves against the shore, the warmth of the sun, and Charli’s voice calling for him grounded him, pulling him out of his thoughts. ”Yeah, babe?” he called back, making his way across the sand toward her. He set the water down on the table next to her lounger and crouched beside her, resting an arm on the armrest as he looked at her with a crooked grin.
”This is the life, huh? Sun, sand, and you. Can’t complain.“ He paused, his grin softening as his gaze lingered on her. ”You look like you’ve got this whole vacation thing figured out already. What’s on your mind?”
He knew this break was just as much for her as it was for him, and despite the match looming over them, he wanted this moment to feel like a reprieve, a chance to recharge before everything got complicated again, thanks to his own doing.
”Nothing… literally nothing.“ She mused softly in response to what he asked, turning her head to meet his gaze she smiled. Whilst she was so fully relaxed she had cleared her mind, he still looked pensive and full of thought. ”You though… what are you thinking about?”
Her fingers raked through his hair, curling up in them and playfully moving his head about with an easy laugh. She kept her eyes trained on him as she tried to read him, she could see there was something behind his adoring gaze and it bothered her.
”For someone on vacation you look so serious right now, come relax with me… whatever it is that’s worrying you can wait a few days, it’s not welcome here.“
Kian let out a low chuckle as her fingers raked through his hair, playfully moving his head around. Her laugh was infectious, and for a moment, it pulled him out of his thoughts, grounding him in the present. He leaned into her touch slightly, a soft smile tugging at his lips as he looked up at her.
”Can’t hide anything from you, huh?” he said lightly, but there was a hint of honesty behind his words. He reached up, catching her hand in his and holding it against his cheek for a moment before letting it fall. ”Just… thinking about the match. About everything. All my fuck ups.“
He sighed, glancing out at the waves before turning his gaze back to her. ”I know you’re right. This is supposed to be about us, about relaxing. But it’s hard to shake the feeling, y’know? Losing to Haven was bad enough. And now...“ He trailed off, his hand moving to rest on her leg, his thumb brushing gently over her skin.
”Now I have to face you.“ His voice softened, his smile fading just slightly. ”And I know we agreed to this break, this vacation, but part of me can’t help thinking about how much I’ve fucked up these last two weeks. I feel like shit. Like an idiot.“
He let out a quiet sigh, shaking his head. ”But you’re right. Whatever it is, it can wait and I shouldn’t dwell on it. For now, I’m here with you, and that’s all that matters.“ He shifted, sliding onto the lounger beside her, pulling her close enough that her warmth pressed against him. ”Guess I’ll just need you to remind me how to relax again.“
She got up slowly, walking over to where he now sat, she sat down next to him. Her fingers traced along his jaw, leaning down to kiss him softly.
”Yeah ok you’ve made mistakes...“ she kissed him again, adding the kisses as punctuation to her words. ”… you did some dumb stuff.“ Another kiss with a smile. ”And yeah, us having to face each other is awful… “ and another kiss. ”But I said I’d lay down for you, remember?”
She stayed with her lips close to him, hovering there as she looked into his eyes, her hand moving to his chest and her fingers tapping over his heart, mimicking his heartbeat.
”This match can’t come between us. Haven can’t come between us… we’re here, just me and you because that’s all we need. It’s all we have ever needed.“
Kian closed his eyes for a moment as her kisses and words wrapped around him, each one chipping away at the tension he carried. Her hand on his chest, her fingers following the rhythm of his heartbeat, brought him back to the moment, back to her. He opened his eyes, meeting hers, the sincerity in them cutting through his doubts.
”Charli,” he started softly, his voice steady but thick with emotion, ”this is your dream. It always has been. And I’m not gonna be the one to stand in the way of that. When we step into that ring, I’m gonna lie down for you. No arguments, no debate.“
He reached up, his hand cupping her face gently, his thumb brushing over her cheek as he held her gaze. ”You’ve worked too hard, sacrificed too much to let me mess it up for you. I’d never forgive myself if I did. You’re the one who deserves it, the one who’s destined for all of it.“
Kian leaned forward, his forehead resting against hers, his voice dropping to barely a whisper. ”It’s not just about the match, Charli. It’s about what you’ve built, what you’ve earned. I’m not gonna ruin that, not for anything.“
He pulled back just enough to see her face again, a small, determined smile tugging at his lips. ”So, yeah, I’ll lie down. Because you’ve always been the star. And I’ll always be the one in your corner, no matter what.“ He leaned in, kissing her softly, his hand still cradling her face as if to emphasize his words. ”This is your time. I won’t take it away from you.“
She slid over just a little, straddling him with her legs either side of him, bringing her forehead down to meet his, she spoke in a soft, hushed tone that assured him that her words were only meant for him.
”Okay.“ She agreed with one word in an exhale of breath, one hand still on his chest, still tapping to his heartbeat as she leaned her head just enough to kiss him, soft, intentional kisses. ”You do that for me and I’ll do all of it for the both so us...“
She kept peppering him with kisses; all over his face, his neck, soft and playful but with so much sweetness behind them, making every single one real and grounding. Both hands holding his cheeks as she pressed her lips to his ear again.
”We’ve come this far just me and you, we will go out there and we will make a statement. All of that will come and we will rise together...“ her words were a whisper, a promise. ”But today? We’re here and it’s perfect and the only thing I want is to just exist with you...“
She brought her face back to his, her eyes pouring into his with a renewed sparkle. ”Fuck everything else.“
Kian let out a soft laugh, the sound low and warm as she straddled him, her touch and her kisses chasing away every lingering doubt in his mind. His hands found her waist, steadying her as he leaned into her closeness, into the softness of her words and the weight of her promise. Each kiss she placed felt like an anchor, pulling him into the moment with her.
”Fuck everything else,” he echoed quietly, his smile widening as he looked into her sparkling eyes. His thumb brushed over her hip, grounding himself in her presence. ”You’re right. None of it matters right now. Not the match, not the noise, not any of it.“
He leaned forward, kissing her back, slow and intentional, matching her energy as if to pour all his gratitude, love, and admiration into that one moment. When he pulled back, his forehead pressed against hers again, his voice softened.
”You make me better, Charli. You always have. And no matter what happens out there, no matter what anyone else thinks, it’s you and me. Always.“ He let his hands trail up her back, resting them lightly just beneath her shoulder blades as he held her gaze.
”Today and the rest of the week is ours,” he added, his grin turning playful. ”And if you want to just exist for now? I’ll follow your lead like I always do. But don’t be surprised if I can’t stop kissing you everywhere!”
His tone was light, teasing, but the truth of his words was undeniable. This was their moment, their escape, and he was ready to live in it with her, no matter how fleeting it might be.
”Babe?” She called out to Kian, before resting her head back on the lounger and just enjoying the warmth of the sun. This was what she needed, she needed to recharge and reset and even if it was going to cost her greatly to do it… she was happy to do it all the same.
